MySpace Layouts Updates

Posted by Rob on August 27th, 2007

Remaining ever vigilant on how my MySpace layouts display on MySpace profiles, I recently discovered that some of my layouts that employ the tweak to hide the MySpace header and footer links (Home, Browse, Search, etc.) will sometimes suppress the display of the banner ad appearing across the top (and to those who may be thinking, 'Yeah? So what? Cool!...' — NO WE DO NOT WANT THIS).

After considerable investigation, I discovered that the MySpace template will now sometimes wrap the banner ad —most particularly when image ads are being displayed— in an extra DIV element which then tests true for this line of code:

table tbody tr td div div {visibility: hidden;}

This line of code is used in my tweak to hide the footer links.

This issue has been corrected and all of the following layouts have been updated.

On the Free MySpace Layouts home page: Webmaster's Choice #1 - #5

In the Original MySpace Layouts series: All 5 layouts on this page

In the More Original MySpace layouts series: All 5 layouts on this page

In the Plain MySpace Layouts series - All the following were updated:

Plain Black MySpace Layouts - 01
Plain Black MySpace Layouts - 03

Plain Red MySpace Layouts - 02
Plain Red MySpace Layouts - 04
Plain Red MySpace Layouts - 05

Plain Blue MySpace Layouts - 01

Plain Yellow MySpace Layouts - 02

Plain Orange MySpace Layouts - 02
Plain Orange MySpace Layouts - 05

Plain Green MySpace Layouts - 03
Plain Green MySpace Layouts - 05

Plain Purple MySpace Layouts - 05

And finally, the code generated by the Hide Header/Footer links tweak in my Advanced MySpace Editor was updated as well.

If you were using one of these layouts, you can correct this issue by either reinstalling the layout code or by copy-and-pasting this quick fix code into the bottom of your 'About Me' box on your 'Edit Profile' screen:

That's it..

Have a good one!

Attn: Link Removal Licensees

Posted by Rob on August 15th, 2007

Okay this was a bit of an oversight on my part... Sorry.

All those who purchased the Link Removal License / Super EZ Profile Tweaker package were still seeing the clickwrap agreement box appear when attempting to retrieve any of my Myspace layout codes. This may have led to some confusion about why you were being compelled to agree to display links on my layouts when you had purchased the right to remove them.

This minor inconvenience has been rectified. You have only to visit the Super EZ Profile Tweaker download page (link was provided in the thank you email that was sent to you) and a cookie will be set in your browser which will remember you as an official Link Removal Licensee. This will suppress the display of any clickwrap agreement boxes in the future when you're getting a layout code from my site. The cookie will last a full year.

Why only have the cookie last a year when the Link Removal License is good forever? Because:

  1. I fully expect to be updating the Super EZ Profile Tweaker at least once a year (which will then necessitate Link Removal Licensees to revisit the download page again thus resetting the cookie for another year).
  2. I'm toying around with implementing some kind of login system for Link Removal Licensees which would —among other things— automatically suppress the clickwrap agreement when getting a MySpace layout code.

Okay.. that's it.

Have a good one!

Firefox 2.0.0.6 update

Posted by Rob on August 12th, 2007

Woops... Been so dang busy with the Super EZ Profile Tweaker (yes I know... shameless plug... guilty as charged) that I'm just now getting around to updating Firefox to the latest version which is 2.0.0.6. The release date for this version of Firefox was July 30th, 2007.

This affects the following pages here at Iron Spider:

Some one emailed me a while back (I'm sorry... I forget who) that the External Applications extension no longer worked in the latest version of Firefox.

Fortunately this is NOT true. I just installed and tested it in Firefox 2.0.0.6 and it still works (phew!). This is a relief because this extension has —for all intents and purposes— been abandoned by the original developer. It's basically running on empty here at my site because I know how to open up the extension and bump up the Firefox version compatibility (which is the extent of my expertise with modifying Firefox extensions... *chuckle*...).

So that's it on that front.

Have a good one everybody!
