magnificent site.
really easily understandable and in handy when you forget simple things.
your teh roxorz.
Actually, Rob your step by step tutorials were instrumental in creating my site. I found myself returning often to browse the site for more help. Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for your tasteful MySpace layouts. The default page was much too boring and the other layouts I'd found were so gaudy they gave me a headache - call me a snob but I just can't believe anyone would use some of those - but Iron Spider was just right! Thanks again!
hi there, i just wanted to say thankyou for your site, i'd spent what felt like hours trailing through myspace layouts when i came across yours and there it was not just one perfect one but several, so thanks for saving my brain from dribbling and keep up the excellent work.:)
Thanks to you, I'm still alive!!
With the latest collapse of my computer I lost Visual Studios (the HTML-editor I normaly use).. So today I was going to try something new...ta tam.. the "HTML-Kit"..!!
But when I opend the program the first time I almost burst out in tears... fell of the chair...sold my self to a passing gypsy cirkus..you name it.. :)
..but then I found your guide in how to set up the HTML-kit.. phuuu.. that really saved my life!
So put that on your record: *saved on life.
thanks!
just wanted to say Thanx!! I hated having the same cookie cutter layout as everyone else!!
Amazing work! Your site is clean cut and easy to navigate (which is hard to find these days). This is by far the most user friendly site I have ever seen, and there is a wealth of information to help other people create the same enviroment on their own pages.
I can't even imagine how much time and effort you put in here...Thank you!
WOW... This is truly the BEST site I've been to for MySpace layouts. Very Nice. Great tips too.
Thanks for the great site covering myspace and html in general. I am also a bit "long in the tooth" but still know my way around HTML (and 360 assembler!). It was nice to not have to spend a bunch of time trying to figure out a way to make a myspace page look presentable.
I now find myself coming back again and again to try to understand some of the quirks of myspsace.
Again, thank you!
you're so awesome! i love this site, it has helped me soooo much!!!! thanks!
wow its hard to explain how awesome this site is. its helped me so much. ive been looking for a site like this for months and now ive found it.
thanks for the help in creating my perfect myspace!
Hi I got a template from iron spider which i was very pleased with how ever there is no editing buttons so i cant edit my my space. can you help please.
Mary, What's your MySpace URL? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "there is no editing buttons". Are you using a band profile?
Thank you so much for your help and time. Mary K Burke
Hi,
My band has put up a myspace and we used one of your codes and now cannot edit anything on the Band Details section because the buttons which say 'edit' have vanished. Can you please explain how this can be rectified.
Yours,
Anna
Sorry, and the URL for our space is...
http://www.myspace.com/brandnewdayspace
Hello Anna,
The reason why the 'edit' buttons have vanished from your Edit Profile screens is because you have installed a layout that hides the header navigation links that run across the top of your profile (Home, Browse, Search...etc). For regular Myspace users, this wouldn't be a problem because about six months ago, all the Edit Profile screens were revamped so that they no longer applied the styles in layout codes (which was becoming a big problem). I don't know why they didn't revamp the Edit Profile screens for band profiles as well. So in effect, all the MySpace band profiles are still using the 'old style' Edit Profile screens.
TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM:
There are two ways around this.
1) The easiest is to simply go to your MySpace account home page and instead of clicking on the 'Edit Profile' link, click on the 'Safe Mode' link. The 'Safe Mode' link will take you to edit screens that don't apply the styles of layout codes.
OR...
2) Apply this solution if you would like to use your Upcoming shows section because the 'hide header/footer links' tweak also hides the content of this section (I'm assuming you're using Windows):
A) Go to your MySpace account home page.
B) Click on 'Safe Mode'
C) Click on the 'Edit' button below the box where your layout code is installed (typically in the 'Bio' box)
D) On the next screen, click inside the box where your layout code is installed and press Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
E) Use the Find dialog to do a search for this code:
div table tbody td font {visibility: hidden;}
F) Change 'hidden' to 'visible'.
G) Click on 'Preview' and then on the next screen, scroll to the bottom and click on 'Submit'.
All done.
Now you'll be able to see the Edit links if you click on 'Edit Profile' and your Upcoming Shows section will display content correctly. However, your profile will now display all the MySpace header and footer links (an unavoidable side effect).
Hey there =)
I am newer to myspace, and just wanted to let you know that you have the best generator I've seen around the net. I attempted to use another person's code for the semi-transparent tables, but it lagged by page quite bad.
Thanks again, cheers mate!

Your site is fantastic!! I keep coming back for more!!
i searched the internet for hours to find what i needed for my site, to no avail until i came upone the iron spider site. as a professional musician, to get the kind of quality i found on this site would cost a very large sum indeed, so you can imagine my delight when i found music backgrounds of this quality for FREE! easy to use, easy to apply, what more could you ask for. if you are looking to update a website or myspace page, look no further. dont waste your time with other sites, they are much inferior to this... thanks
All I can say is "WOW" keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the amazing layouts! We're new to this place and appreciate the generosity. Lenny
I love your website!! It is the most informative site I've found. You have made my life a lot easier. Thanks!!
Thank you so much! Your site was very helpful. It cut to the chase and gave me what I needed!
Awesome!
Thank you so much for your professional My Space layouts. They were exactly what I was looking for! Everything else I found was so gaudy and horrible. Yours are so tasteful and attractive. I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you so much again! :)
Dude! Your background layouts are First Class! You're an absolute Class Act! The were EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks!! Any new ones on the way?
Richard,
Thanks and yes new ones are definitely on the way. As soon as they're uploaded, I'll announce it here on my blog.
TO ALL:
Much thanks to everyone for your great feedback thus far! It is greatly appreciated.
Rob:
Thanks for all the help on your site with layouts and codes. It has made such a difference and things are so easy to understand.
Very much appreciated by my son Jason and myself.
God bless you and your family during the holidays.
Jolene
WOW.....this site is fantastic. I used it for both Myspace and frappr pages using my own background picture. Thank you so much for helping me, no other site offers this much help. I will surely send my friends here.
As an inveterate downloader and fiddler, I found HTML-kit and installed it. Minutes later, as my eyes started to glaze over, I found your tutorials. Rob, from vast experience on plowing through "introductory" texts, may I say that your clarity/humour/"keep-it-simple" approach/and layout (like those "why-i-do-this" pop-ups) should go into some "universal tech-writer's handbook".
Brilliant. Keep the good work flowing.
Cheers - and thanks
Rashad from Australia
I just wanted to tell you how much I liked the Dark on Light 1-01, but I did not like how wide the Top 8 was.
It's too skinny, can you widen it somehow, please?
Can you teach me to?
Thanks!!!
Much Love,
Erik Stouffer
Erik,
You can easily make that layout to your specifications using my Advanced MySpace Editor. Load the editor and then on the Background tab, click on [Transparent tables - DARK TEXT] and then click on [Color PICKER] beside Background Color and select Black. Then switch to the Text tab and select the text colors of your choosing (humble apologies but I forget exactly which HSB settings I used for that pale yellow text color but I'm sure you can approximate a reasonable facsimile). For the Header link color and the Table link color I used 'goldenrod' (you can just type it in manually). On the Tables tab, you'll notice that the default setting for the 'Create evenly sized tables' tweak is Yes (leave that as is). This will make the whole right column skinnier (including your Friend Space).
Thanks for making such great layouts. I wish other MySpace layout sites would put in as much effort as much as you clearly have, instead of creating countless ugly layouts and glitter graphics.
With previous layouts, I've always deleted the link at the end of the code, but I think you deserve some credit for all the work you've done.
Dan
YOU ROCK! love the site! i, like everyone else that has posted here finaly found a layout sight that didnt suck ass. THANK YOU.
one question though... i also found a contactTable from another site that i would love to use on my page... how do i do that without destroying everything?
i appreciat all your help!
K,
Kevin,
I don't officially support mixing and matching my layout codes with codes taken from other sites. I explain this in full on my How to Install the Layout Codes page.
However, some have successfully used my layouts with contact tables taken from other sites. Your very best bet (and remember this is completely unofficial, if something goes wrong, you're on your own...) is to use my Advanced MySpace Editor to make your layout (the background image in your current layout is available to use in this editor). Then, on the Tables tab, make sure you click to clear the Use customized contact table tweak. Then install the layout code and then install the other contact table code you'd like to use after my layout code, i.e., at the very end of the About Me text box.
If you don't have time to do all that then you could try installing the other contact table code after my layout code that you have currently installed. This may or may not work. Once again, I make no guarantees.
Thank you so much, your a gentleman and a scholar. I hope i didnt offend you by asking how to add someone elses work to your already briliant page. i believe that i will keep your page just the way it is. although i might try what you mentioned... but if it doesnt work i am perfectly happy with the way it looks right now. the main reason i wanted to change it in the first place is i believe it runs on "flash" at least that is what a tech guy said at my work. which isnt visible through our firewall or the way the settings are here.. everyting besides the contact table runs GREAT!!!! like i said earlier you are the BOMB!!!!!
THANKS AGAIN,
Kevin
Kevin,
Just to clarify, none of my layouts use Flash. Exactly what issues are you having with the display of the contact table? Are you perchance on a Mac computer using an old version of the Safari web browser? Also, could you post (or send me by email) your MySpace URL so that I could check out your layout code?
Hi! Just wanted to thank you for this amazing site!
I was looking for help on how to do something (anything!) to my MySpace...
The MySpace itself offers no help (at least I couldn't find any answers from there...) but luckily I found your site! You saved not only me but my computer as well, because I was ready to throw this thing out the window! But now I don't have to because I learned how to do stuff to my page! Thanks a bunch!
-Maikki from Finland
Thanks for a very helpful and well-thought out site. It's been a long time since I've worked with html, and I quickly found that I'd forgotten much of it when I sat down to update some pages tonight. I was starting to think there was no way to do a couple of things I wanted to do when I found your site - and found the answers quickly and easily. Much appreciated!
Pretty nice site, wants to see much more on it! :)
Thanks for making myspace easier and very professional.
I appreciate your help A LOT!
Thanks for the myspace background. Finally, my search for a classy layout is over. You rock. Thanks for your services...very nice of you!
Rob,
Just a THANK YOU. I became interested 6-mos prior when my oldest son showed me his profile. Was fun, but trivial, until I learned you could really teak 'em. This meant I finally got let my OCD take over and learn all I could...been at it ever since. Found your site three weeks back and have been a devoted visitor, reading everything you have available (I think...a lot of info, but very well put together and easy to follow). You've been an immense help sorting out all the sh*^ I've been trying to dislodge from the far reaches of my noggin'. Thank you by far the best info and relative links on one site i've come across (plus you're not a group of 17-yr old UK kiddies with a god complex....there's a few roaming as you well know)
Happy New Year Rob! And Thanks a bunch (I'll be low maintenance and will respect /abide by all terms of use--might throw you an update later as the bulk learned lately is from here)

Awesome and easy to use. I like the previews so i could experiment until I found exactly what I wanted. Thanks
uhm how do i make the right column skinny because its stretchinng the right column nd ii love the layout im using!!!! so i do not want to change it
soo what do i do?
#45,
You can just post under a pseudonym if you wish to remain anonymous. As for your question, my guess is that you have images posted in the right column of your page that are too wide and hence are spreading your layout out of proportion. Another thing that could be spreading your layout is someone posting a long unbroken string of text to your comments section like a whole string of ???????????????? ...something like that. But I can't be sure unless I actually see your layout. Can you post your MySpace URL? (Or email it to me.) Also, you might want to go over step #6 in my 7 Easy Steps to a Kick Ass MySpace Page tutorial.
Your layouts are absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I found a site with tasteful and sophisticated layouts! Thank you so much!
Awesome site with plenty of useful infos to learn HTML & a great webmaster who took the time to help me mess around with his template ;-) Thanks for all Rob, this is much appreciated.
So i was just cruising some myspace sites when i stumbled upon this site. I have to say i have been myspacing it for quite some time now and this site rocks!!! Very easy to navigate...the colors in everything are crisp and clear. Very easy to use clean layouts and i just learned some new stuff on making my own so im happy. I will definately tell my friends about this site. Thanx and keep up the good work.
Hi Rob!
I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate what you've done here in regards to the myspace backgrounds. I have no website, just a myspace that I couldn't even access to update until a few days ago. I'm a confessed technotard. :)
Your backgrounds are outstanding, but I didn't end up using one, and here's why. I found your background editors, and they are so easy to use, with so many options, that I was able to put my own personal touches on my site that I never thought possible. I loved using it!
Like I said I'm a technotard, but ballsy, so I jumped right in and used your Advanced Editor (the new one) to create my background for myspace. I also used the Rich Text Editor, that is so cool!
Even for someone like me it was so easy! Follow your instructions and you can't go wrong. I'm by no means a graphic artist or even really a creative type, but I tweaked some pics of my favourite musician and created a few different backgrounds for myspace from them.
It was rad! Loved it, can't say enough about it, and am telling everyone to check out your site on their own or via the link on my page. :)
The url is http://www.myspace.com/pegasussoaring (and yeah, I know, I have to go back in and change the scroll bar colour, I keep forgetting lol) ;)
There's really not much on it, just the basics, until I have time to do more. But I love that I can personalize it. So rad, thanks so much!
Sheri
You Rock! I have been using your layouts and generator for the past several months I love it/them and it is so simple. I cant stand all the frilly glitter crap all over myspace makes me want to vomit. So keep Rockin! Thanks So Very Much,
JJN
thanks for the site. it's great to use. also wanted to let you know though that the myspace links at the top of the page weren't linking properly (no hyperlinks for home search forum etc) & that the centering is off for the blog posts when you do a reverse layout. other than that, no complaints! cheers!
Lana,
If you're using the Advanced MySpace Editor, you can turn the MySpace navbar links (Home, Browse, Search, etc) on and off using the 'Hide header and footer links' option in the tweaks section. As for the blog comments not centered properly when doing a reverse layout, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'd have to see an example of that. Can you post your MySpace URL so I can take a look (or email it to me if you don't want to post it publicly)?
I just want to say I love the Advanced Layout Editor! I had been having problems with some of my comments interfering with nearly every other pre-made layout I tried, preventing my background from showing up. I even tried just background codes instead of full layouts and still had the same trouble, but after I created a layout with your editor, now everything works perfectly even without resizing the comments! :D Also I like that you have resizing comments as a built-in option in your editor.
Thanks, Rob!
Finally.......somebody who is designing free, stylish and quality backgrounds for MySpace and not the usual free 'tacky' sh*****e!!
Many many thanks !
You have also inspired me to attempt to set up my own website at some point.......
Thanks again!
Peace
**Lara M**
I can not count the timeS I have turned to your pages and got the help I needed as well as enjoy your humor. The, IRON SPIDER FOR A STRONG WEB, will always stick with me !
Great work and I thank you. Without your pages and humor i don't think i could have enjoyed my learning experience. I am still a copy and paste hack but improving and usingwhat I find is cool. Be well and again I thank you

I am thrilled with your myspace background I know nothing at all about how to do that stuff. Looking at your site I think I might even be able to design my own web page if I had a mind too. I am going to bookmark your site in case I get the inclination later. Thanks so much for making it easy for a complete techno-idiot
Well, this is got to be one of the best sites that I've visited in a looooong time. It's funny as hell, and as long as you have half a brain, very interesting and lots of help. I enjoyed laughing to myself reading about you making fun of people doing certain things on their web page or myspace... it's so true!!! Thanks for a kick ass site. #1 on my favorite list indeed.
Hi Rob,
"It's easy!" I hear people cry. "Only if you know how!" I reply
In desperation I 'searched' for help and found you/your site.
THANK YOU for your kind, generous and easy to copy & paste, ready made classy layouts - I've chosen your acoustic guitar design - looks great and I feel great now the problem is solved! - THANK YOU once again.
These layouts are amazingly clean and well designed. Unlike all the other crap out there for myspace layouts, these are beautifully done and border on fine art. The font styles and colors work incredibly well with the backgrounds and come through very clearly, rather than getting washed out by background colors. The entire design is incredibly crisp and well thought out. Excellent work!
Great site!
Six weeks ago I knew NOTHING about HTML or web design. Searching around I ended up, purely by chance, at this site and have not looked back - or anywhere else, for that matter!
Great, easy to follow tutorials and great fun ("The World's Crappiest...." is a gem.)
Thank you.
This is a unique and beautiful site.
Thank you!!!
wonderful site. VERY helpful!
Great Site! Fast and informative, easy to navigate. Keep it up!
Great site. The MySpace layouts are highest quality I've seen and they don't have stupid ass advertisment banners you've go to spend ages trying to take out. Very clean, very neat and very stylish. Keep it up dog.
Thank you for my new layout! I hate looking at myspace pages where it's hard to read anything because of the background noise! Sometimes less is more...
Thanks so very much for a truly sublime background. Lovely working with such a professional!
http://www.myspace.com/samuelchambers is the myspace page I set up for my friend using your professional layout. Thank you so much for this site and your time. You have helped us more than you know. Be blessed
Peace
this is a great layout place youre layouts are great and the layout genarator is awesome.. thanks a lot,,
you rock,,
Well, much the same as all the others, thanks for the sterling back drops, may this be a lesson to all those giddy whizzy spangly myspace sites out there - Thanks
Oh My Goodness!!!!!! Your site is WONDERFUL!!!! I Love it sooo much. Makes us computer illiterate believe that we can actually accomplish something!
Thanks Rob for a brilliant and easy to follow site.
Finally a site that just does plain, clean backgrounds for myspace. No tacky shite, cheers fella!
Hey. I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I'm so sick of glittery, jr. high school garabage as my choice for myspace layouts. I LOVE your photograph creations. I'm currently using the trees and I LOVE them. Plain, simple and beautiful!! That's why I'm writing to you. Is there anyway to remove the girl from the top of the page. You know, the box about my about me section. She just really is out of place and doesn't match to the layout at all. I don't know if you put her there on purpose or if it's just me, but she doesn't seem right to me. Is there something else that matches better or someway to remove her completely. Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention at all, but I just had to ask. Please either e-mail me or leave me a message on myspace http://www.myspace.com/lillypop21 I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again!
Jessica,
I'm not sure what background you were referring to with regards to the 'girl' above your about me section but I see you're now using the purple begonias background so I'm assuming everything is okay.
TO ALL:
Much thanks for the feedback! :)
Great site. Your examples are very useful and the text is clear and to the point. Format makes for ease of understanding.
Yes, I WOULD buy a used car from you.
I have to really thank you for your myspace layout -- I was having oh so much trouble designing mine, then what do you know, I can do it all in twelve seconds with a simple copy-paste!
Best help site I found :) thanks much
Great site!
Some useful info on your site And anyone who likes Robert Frip is ok by me
Go Wings!
many thank-you's for your myspace backgrounds, iv spent hours looking for something i liked and couldn't ifnd anything simple enough and without any of these emo images you find on dark coloured pages. so i googled "plain black myspace backgrounds" and found this site many thanks again
Hi Robert,
I'm a fan.
Thank you for your excellent website and tutorials. They have really aided me in my personal life with my blog, LovingJacqui.net, which has helped me keep my long-distance sweetheart's interest while I lived in Canada and saved money to see her. She lives in Australia.
Now, I have just launched my self-promotion business website, ChristophDollis.com using one of your outstanding free templates (modified).
Therefore, I think you will end up helping me as much in business as you have personally.
You're the greatest (source for a non-nonsense approach to getting a great website up and running fast on a budget)!
I value and appreciate all your hard work.
My dear, dear, dear, dear Spider! I cannot thank you enough for helping me make my band's MySpace a colour co-ordinated, less-is-more, all-round groovy place to visit! Mmmmmmwaa!
Awesome site with awesome layouts. Thank you!
I really liked the plain myspace layouts... it is funny how hard this is to find... thanks for saving me the time of having to make my own plain black background... i know that sounds sarcastic but I really am serious. Thanks again Kat... please check me out at /black_cat_999
~ Cya Kat
THANK YOU! Finally a websit for us not so HTML savy people
Thanks Iron Spider, I really appreciate the love & commitment to teaching you show.
Lots of great stuff, cool photos too. Good eye!
You rock.
Hi Rob, It looks like you are a busy man. I am using one of your plain myspace layouts and I thank you very much for the ease in attaining it. My questions: How do I get rid/hide the "details" section and can any of the programs/files/links you list on your webpage for help be used without any type of conflict.
For ex, I used one of your layouts so I am assuming that any tweaks, changes, updates, etc., that I would like to make to myspace would need to come from your site & links if I don't want problems. Thanks again and eagerly wait a response.
mike
Mike,
I meant to get a tweaks section up on this site but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Sorry. You can mix in tweaks you find from other sites (and they may or may not work) but if you do start mixing in codes from other sites, I cannot provide any technical support. I explain this in detail on my How to Install the Layout Codes page:
http://www.ironspider.ca/adv/myspace/install_layout.htm#mixmatch
You really nailed it when you talked about having to wade through (where's my pepto bismol?) oceans of glitter...If I had to look at one more flashing flying fairy I may have actually imploded. Please allow me to say THANK YOU from a real-live grownup who completely appreciated the quality of your work. You saved the day, and my stomach.
Author K.J. White
"flashing flying fairy"... (*chuckle*)... excellent! Gotta write that one down..
Thanks Kelly :)
TO ALL:
Much thanks for the feedback!
I must say, after many hours wasted searching for decent myspace layouts, stumbling upon your site is like stumbling upon a treasure chest. Your work is great and the layout truly don't suck. I appreciate your work and plan to direct anyone who asks about good layout sites to you.

I found this site when I typed "Classy Myspace Layouts" into google, expecting to have to search for pages. Instead your site blew me away with my first click. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for having some taste, making everything so easy to use, AND giving me the option to further edit anything I care to learn about with your CSS and HTML instructions. I'm still in euphoric shock. Yours is one tag I'm more than happy to display.
Thank you so much. You're awesome..this was easy and exactly what I needed.
Best myspace editor thanks for help
Rob,this is a fantastic website and I just wanna thank you so much. Your step-by-step instructions saved my life. My assignment which required a website prototype could not have been completed if it was not for you. Thank you~~
I'm a graduate student, learning HTML in order to complete assignments. I came across your website while doing a search for HTML Kit help. How understandable and entertaining you make HTML and Web design. Thanks so much.
Stumbled upon your site and loved the simplicity of the web designs. Beautiful backgrounds to choose from. Found the perfect shade of green for my site. It's tasteful, easy on the eye and very "me." :)
Thanks!
Your MySpace layouts are absolutely wonderful. I've spent hours looking on other websites for the perfect layout for my page, and everything was just so tacky. That's when I stumbled across your site. Now I'm not even sure which one to choose because there are so many layouts I love! Good job with making something for everyone too. Keep up the good work.
I used one of the myspace templates for myspace.com/sirholio and it has worked out well. It looks great and doesn't take 8 years to load and scroll down through like most people's myspace pages.
I found your layouts to be impressively clean and elegantly simple. Kudos! and thank you.
simply beautiful. simply thankyou.
Thanks so much for your great site. You were a big help in understanding the HTML Kit and your templates helped me design my own website.
thank u for ur site!
you have given me sweet relief (yes I was breakin out in a sweat!)
love the layouts... easy to install
cheers ! xx
great work, any plans on making it work with Firefox?
brmwk,
Make what work in Firefox? Firefox is my default web browser. Everything I do, I run it through Firefox to make sure it works. What exactly are you talking about?
these profiles are great! i like the plain profiles, they're exactly what i wanted. thanks =]
After HOURS of wrestling with a form, I found your site. Up and working! Your instructions are written in a manner so easy to understand! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This is the best tutorial for HTML that I have seen. I've been a self-taught HTML-capable person for a while, and I learned some new things. AND I like the SmartFrames. And I am going to do the CSS tutorial next; I've been using css for years, but I'll bet I learn a lot. Thank you!
Well my friend you have outdone yourself once again. Great job on the site, classy and clean along with the new layouts. I wouldn't expect anything less. Now for the good news..I am going to finally try and install your new two toned layouts. Awesome work Rob, stand by I may need you :)
Loving that little speaker, :P
Thanks Rob!
Hey Deb!
Fancy meeting you here! (*chuckle*)... Thanks for the feedback!
To All:
Thanks for your feedback everyone!
I've been on your site for two minutes and I alread know it's a great resource I'll keep coming back to. Wish I had a relevant site to link to you from. Thanks for the site.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL work!! I'm new to MySpace and you made it easy for me to make a site for my Mom.. It's Lovely
Hugz!!
Everything mentioned above. I understand the form and functionality of myspace, but I am graphic print designer and most of it makes me want to puke. The plain red site looks exactly like the inside of my loft, rich dark bloody red on a lighter hue. It was so easy to navigate aqround your site finally i understood the myspace method.
how helpful... No problem on the link, Iron Spider is a phat name.
-lbee
Thank you so much - after trailing through pages and pages of REALLY grisly layouts I came across an article recommending Iron Spider.
I'm really delighted with my myspace layout now
http://www.myspace.com/cathy2shoes and I'll be coming back to learn how to transform my own website into a thing of beauty.
You are My Hero!
Cathy x
Beautiful! Thank you! I was looking for a Layout that wasn't Teeny Bopper or OCD or Goulish and got lucky and found you!
W-H-A-T a crackin' site with great content, easy to navigate and with LOTS of useful and relevant content; finally got my head around a whole lotta issues in no time flat ;)(well almost!).
Iron Spider ROCKS, need i say more? - except a big Thank You. Wishing that live long in great prosperity and good health.
I was looking for a layout that would be seen correctly under IE 7, as many of the other websites' layouts would have portions of them disappear when using IE 7. I found this site and was pleased that the layouts not only withstood IE 7 browsing but were well-composed and devoid of gimmicks. Text is now easy to read as the background doesn't interfere with it. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
I really, REALLY wish you would put up a Paypal tip jar -- if not to you, then to your favorite charity. I used your template to build my own business web site a year ago. Now, I'm updating a web site for a client who wanted a new skin for the site. After sifting through hundreds of over-wrought templates from paid sites, I came back to you and selected two schemes that include more color but are still uncluttered. The client chose one this morning, with no hesitation over whether to keep looking.
Thank you for making my life easier.
Kim,
I thank you kindly for your thoughts but as long as the link "Design by Iron Spider" link remains at the bottom of every page using my templates then that's payment enough for me. :)
TO ALL:
Much thanks for your feedback!
you are good beyond words.
This site is awesome. :)
Very easy to understand, for newbies like myself.
Thanks a lot! :)
Super!!! Thank you... Thank you... Thank you...
Just the simple background is wonderful...
Thank you so much - you guys are my myspace saviours!
I felt I must have been the only FILM COMPOSER's profile with upwards of 2500 friends and still running on the default layout. But I have never be able to find anything I liked.
Until I came here now I'm really proud of my profile - THANK YOU!!!!
http://www.myspace.com/stevedunster
Your stuff is so beautifully done, and so is your site. You guys really walk your talk. You website is not only easy on the eye, but so natural to use and crammed with exactly the right information.
Thank you - you have come to my rescue and it was all so painless

Hi Rob, I am currently using one of your simple layouts. I would like to know how I can add a slideshow using your layout. I followed the myspace instructions: cutting and pasting html code and nothing is happening. Thanks.
mike
Mike,
As long as you're not using any tweak codes taken from another site, adding a slideshow should be no problem. The only hide codes my layouts use now specifically target the MySpace navigation bar (Home, Browse, Search, etc) and nothing else. So I can't see any reason why my layouts would suppress the addition of a slideshow. What's your MySpace URL?
Thanks for your reply Rob. The url is: http://www.myspace.com/allahmahabe
Mike,
You must have done something wrong in the copy-and-paste process because I installed your exact same layout on my test profile including the resize comments pics code and I managed to install a MySpace slide show no problem. It checked out fine in Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and Opera 9. What web browser are you using and are you sure you have Flash installed in it? Visit the Macromedia Flash home page and test to see if you have Flash installed.

Hey I havent changed my layout in a long ass time till I seen yours and I just gotta say THANKS!!!!!
This is the best website I've seen for myspace layouts. Very colorful, and clean. Very professional. Im glad you go through the effort so that I can have one of your layouts. Thank you very much.
I'm hoping you get this email. It doesnt look like the first one went through. I just want to say what a beautiful site this is. Nice, clean, colorful layouts. Im using one of the chromatic layouts. Beautiful! This by far is the best site. I've been a m/s user for 2 yrs now and by far this is the best site for layouts. Im glad someone like you takes pride in their work. Keep it up.
Ok, I'll try again, cuz this site is the BOMB! The layouts are delicious to the eye,and clean. I've been a m/s user for 2yrs now and by far, this is the BEST website I've found for layouts. Im thankful for your artistic creativity.
Hi KP,
Much thanks for your feedback! Just so you know, the comments posted to this blog are queued for approval before they're posted. Just to clear up any confusion you might have had about why you weren't seeing your comment(s) posted right away.
TO ALL:
Much thanks for your feedback everyone!
Thanks for a classy alternative to the majority of layouts. Very clean and professional. It's almost too bad I fill up the tables with mostly useless crap... :)
Hi. I love your web page info. Very useful. I will put some of the myspace advice to good use very soon.
Have you tried the Apple Safari 3 beta for Windows yet? What do you think? I am a Mac user by the way.
Take it easy.
Arn
Arn,
Yeah I actually downloaded Safari 3 for Windows a few weeks back. Got it on my to-do list to install it (*chuckle*... my to-do list is getting impossibly long these days...)...
Hey there, I just wanted to tell you how much I like your layout designs. Most of the Myspace layouts I see practically give me an ocular migraine from all the noise, and I can hardly stand to look at them. I just wanted a clean, classy look for my own profile, and I was impressed when I found yours. Thanks! --Heather
YOU GUYS ROCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! nice page!
I've been woundering about making a personal web site for my frends and family to keep intouch with me. But didn't know much about it or how to go about it. But when I came upon your site and began to read it, I became every relived to finally find a site that explained it all in detail and gave some good examples. I Thank You, you have helped me out and armed me with some good information to make my decision much easer.
PS I have added your site to my favorites. Thank You again and keep up the good work. Keep HEALTHY and STAY SAFE!
Amazing graphics, clean looking and eye catching, what more could you ever want from a myspace layout? Fabulous, many many kudos to you!
Thank you so much! I can't thank you enough, you have literally saved me months of researching how to make a table layout and such. I already knew a lot of HTML, but I couldn't understand tables! My website is up now, and everyone loves it. I can't wait for my website to get more popular, but I linked back to your website on almost every page! ^_^ Thank you again and again and again.
Dear Iron Spider,
Thanks for sharing the know-how enabling me to make my site more scrumptioius than I could ever hope!
Colin
I love your instructions on how to create a crappy webpage LOL
Very entertaining and informative in the reverse teaching method!
Thank you for sharing!
Jan
Hi, Rob
You have an excellent site with lots of great information and wonderful layouts. I was so happy to land on your site after all the digging. Believe me, it was like a breath of fresh air. I really like your orangeish plain layout and I'm using it now. They are all very nice. I'm fairly new to myspace and you and your layouts, html help, Code-tweaker's and etc, made it all so easy for me. Thank You Very Much & Best Wishes.
i've been using one of ur free myspace layouts, but it desappear after some days. it's so sad that people must pay to use ur layouts.
Anjeza,
What you're probably seeing on your layout is an ImageShack placeholder image (frog). This appears when ImageShack is having technical difficulties in serving up my MySpace background images (including contact tables and the Iron Spider MySpace Layouts corner tag). My layouts continue to remain free to use as long as you abide by the Terms of Use
http://www.ironspider.ca/adv/myspace/aboutlayouts.htm
TO ALL:
All my MySpace backgrounds have been moved to a new image host and I'm currently in the process of updating all the layout codes. If you are seeing the ImageShack placeholder image anywhere on your profile, you will be able to reinstall your layout code within the next two hours so that all the images display properly. Please check in on my MySpace blog for updates to this situation.

Humble apologies for the inconvenience.
~ Rob
(edit)
All Iron Spider MySpace layout codes have now been updated .
Hey man just wanted to say thanks for keeping it simple and thanks for keeping the bs at 0. I really appreciate what you're doing. As of today, I'm using one of your plain black myspace layouts for my band page that I've just started doing work on, and I think I'm planning on buying you're nice little $12 dollar deal. Sounds like a deal to me! Feel free to check out the page if you want.
http://www.myspace.com/thequebsterband
Like I said, I've just started working on it, so it's a bit empty. I do have a few songs up though. =)
Anyway, thanks again, you're the man!
-The Quebster
Quebster,
Yes it's a terrific deal at $12 and the customizations you can make to a band profile using the Super EZ Profile Tweaker are one of a kind (i.e., you won't find a tweak like this anywhere else on the net).
Awesome! This myspace editor is awesome! Very professional and well done. Even the links back to your page are clean!
God bless!
After about 5 days of agonizing over Matt's formmail.pl template and archive notes with studies and learning some perl basics and still no success, I stumbled upon NMS. NMS' own website didn't seem to have the 'how to set up' ... and yours is the only website that showed up like a lighhouse.
Reading your site was so much like a comedy show - I couldn't stop reading your descriptions ...it is awesome!!!
I followed your simple steps to setup a feedback form ... and voila! - at second shot my online form worked right away.
The following were setup - that made it a success...
- a "thankmessage.html" page was already setup.
Where it asked for the html coding for form action = http://www.mydomain.com/cgi/rename.pl, this did not work, because the server translated this action into (www.mydomain.com/www.mydomain.com/cgi/rename.pl) -repeating the website address twice. So it was left at /cgi/rename.pl. BTW the website is http://www.leapfrogfinancial.com/contact.html.
Thank you, Rob, your contribution put my agonies to
an end... where one wasn't in sight. Patience wasn't needed with your simple steps... the forewarning and calming of nerves talking about it is priceless.
Cheers,
Kaaizer
Rob,
Thanks for the great myspace layouts! My myspace page looks great! Your layouts are just what I was looking for :-) muah! You're the best!
i luv using your free "plain" layouts!!!
...i don't care for crazy background stuff!! (just adds to more "chaos!")...
thanks for giving people like me, and "alternative!"...
ROCK ON*...
Yes, they not only work perfectly in myspace, but they are tasteful, as well. I got the bait and switch, also. So thanks a bunch.
I have recently used your site to set up my myspace page and am very impressed to say the least, but I have encountered a problem.
when I set up my page I was(and still am)using mozilla firefox and every thing works fine, until you access my page using explorer .
when you access my page with explorer the background is not visible, although when you access my page with firefox everything is fine.
is this something i can overcome?
my myspace URL is http://www.myspace.com/thestawt1
I have given you my URL so that you can see what I mean.
thanks Carl
P.S hope you like the music
Carl,
Search in your installed layout code (should be right near the top) for "Enter URL" and delete this. Your background should display normally in Internet Explorer after that. I don't know how in the world you managed to get this prompt message mixed into your layout code. I just went to the Advanced Editor and tried to reproduce this error and couldn't do it. The only thing I can think of is that you added it manually to the layout code afterwards thinking that it was necessary.
hello Rob
Just been into my profile, followed your instructions and now everything is working fine.
thanks for your support (the bleeding from my ears has stopped now).
Carl
I am setting up a myspace account for our Elkhounds and I could not find a professional looking background to save my life...that is until I found your website. Now I have a professional looking myspace site and hopefully it will help in our hobby. Thank you soo much. It is great!
I'm trying to create a form much like the one you have here, but can't find a tutorial that shows me how... To post from a form onto the same site or on another part of my webapages. Can u help...
Paige,
I have 10 full pages of tutorials on how to create forms here:

Dear Rob, all my thanks for your fabulous website. You've taught me in just a few days to build my own website. Hopefully I'll be uploading the page in the next couple of days: http://www.buroroot.com.
Have used one of your templates and was even able to change the layout, I'l send you a mail as soon as the site is uploaded, so you can take a look. I've taken the liberty and changed the credits just a little bit:
"Special thanks to Iron Spider for design and assistance." (the link remains ofcourse.
Thanks ever so much.
Greetings from The Netherlands.
Joke (pronounced: Joka) Kops
I think your layouts here are the best-looking on the web.
Thank you so much - and Happy New Year.
awesome site...thanx for some tips. Just wondering how u get the "profile views" to show up on my page?
Steve G,
Only band profiles have that feature where you can see 'profile views' on the actual profile page. Regular MySpace profiles can only see their 'profile views' count on their MySpace account home page.
I just used the plain black layout for my myspace page and my links at the top of the page are GONE. I can't get back to my main page...so...I am going to have to find another layout. Nice try though! I think you need to see it for yourself.
Michele,
On the plain black MySpace layouts page, the two layouts that purposely hide the MySpace navigation bar (#1 and #3) are clearly marked as such. You should read the layout notes before installing any of them to avoid surprises.
Also, I do have an easy-to-use MySpace editor that can help you quickly whip up your own custom plain black layout.
The following may seem off-topic, but hang in there:
"Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction." ~ Albert Einstein
"Moralities, ethics, laws, customs, beliefs, doctrines - these are of trifling import. All that matters is that the miraculous become the norm." ~ Henry Miller
Not outright stating you are a genius, but you're very close. I'm new to MySpace (have my own site so not absolutely necessary) but been on the Net for almost 12 years; been slogging along using FrontPage 2003 code view to tweak the MySpace sections.
Just purchased and downloaded your editor: what a freakin' blessin' bordering on the miraculous (ease-of-use always feels like a miracle). I look forward to using it.
Short version: Many thanks, keep up the genius-ing and all the best,

(*chuckle*)... thanks Philip!
Many thanks for you very informative site. Because of the free info you have layed out here I can contuniue to learn about HTML and how to create a web page for my Band. Many many Kudos to you.
Thanks for putting simple easy to use code and examples available for low tech people. Most other sites seem to show just how complicated they can make it! You make the internet good!
Thank God I stumbled across you! It's so hard to find good myspace layouts, and yours are fantastic. Actually, once I started poking around in your other stuff, your whole site is amazingly useful. You ROCK!
Thank you so much for your time and effort. It is much appreciated!!
I LOVE THIS ITS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!IT WORKED FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this site!!!!! Most myspace layouts are LAME!!! but I love all of your layouts and all of the cool info you have out here to design a website. I wont even have to take a night course, LOL I can just come to your page and get my html fix everyday!
Thank you so much!!!
- Cara
Thank you SO MUCH for making a simple myspace layout- my god it took me forever to find one! I tried a layout generator but it just messed everything up all the time- especially the text and I didnt want to have to bother to change it all to HTML!!! Proud & thankful to be using one of your backgrounds that a person can add their own character to with images etc without too much blingy bling on the layout itself!
Just copied one of your codes for myspace layout. I couldn't have been simpler. And the quality of your designs are light years ahead of anything else available. Brilliant, astonishing, kudos to you sir!
Hi Rob - Thanks tons for injecting some sanity and taste into this whole Myspace thing. I just grabbed your "music keyboard" layout and it looks and works slicker 'n snot on a doorknob! Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/thehackdaddy - also feel free to give my music a listen (or two or three) :)
Thanks,
Mike
aka Hackdaddy
"...slicker 'n snot on a doorknob..."
(*chuckle*)... I gotta write that one down! That's hilarious!
Thanks for your feedback, Mike!

TO ALL:
Thank you one and all for your feedback!
Thank you Dan for the great layouts and the help you gave! When I first got on your site, it was a bit creepy 'cause you were describing the frustration I was experiencing just trying to find a very clean and professional layout for my business concerning "My Space". lol... Too much cartoon glitter out there!
You have a great gig going on here and I'd like to express my sincere appreciation for what you have done and are doing.

Not sure what you meant by 'creepy' but thanks for the feedback anyway. Also, to avoid any confusion with others reading your comments, I'd like to point out that my name is Rob, not Dan...
:)
Greetings, I represent a professional athlete who wants to have a very simple myspace page where everything is hidden except the sections that myspace requires and then simply link back to his website with a photo and a message. We're not going to use any of the other features of myspace except have this posted message. (Basically we're going to set up a page to stop fakers from pretending to be us...) I wonder if your software will do this or if you'd be willing to help after we pay the software price and/or discuss other options. Please email me at your convenience. We would be willing to link back to your page here as a courtesy as well in appreciation for your help. Thanks.
Jonathan,
I think the Super EZ Profile Tweaker may be a little too much for your needs.
If you just want to make a simple MySpace page that keeps all the default features down to a minimum, may I suggest that you visit my other site (RobThunder.com) and use either the plain black or the plain white DIV layout. Either of those layouts will create a very minimalist look on your MySpace profile that will have just a photo, a quick message, your top friends space and the comments section. Then, you could purchase the Rob Thunder Link Removal License to remove the promotional links (all of which is ideal for a professional profile).

While searching for a "plain, black layout" and found your Iron Spider MySpace Layouts. I am now displaying one of your black layouts, but also found some helpful hints from your site. Thank you!
Hope you don't mind, but I put your Iron Spider link on my page, so other peps can find you.

Hi Rob,
Very helpful myspace layouts which look great. Friendly help and the EZ Tweaker is truly easy!Ideal for any musician who wants a professional-looking myspace music site. Highly recommended and great work.
Thank-you so much for creating all these classy Myspace layouts. You wouldn't believe the number of sites I have searched through trying to find something decent! I can't stand all the noise and glitter of most layouts I see, yours are a breath of fresh air.
I'm sooooooooooo in love with this site! You have saved me from yet another strobe light, dizzy design, too many graphics laden layout. Bless you!

Hiya :)
I am using one of your free layouts on my MySpace page (myspace.com/alimoddeydhoo)
I think it's the nicest, freshest, cleanest cut layout I've used. I like plain, uncluttered and neat and it's hard to fine those around as everything is usually flashing neon lights and chaos. Thank you! :)
Ali x
I love your myspace layouts. In fact so much so that yours are the only ones I use. I wanted a feminine layout but not the "candy-heart Barbie doll" style that everyone seems to throw together. Kudos for some very nice layouts!
I wanted to thank you for your hard work and insight.
I am using one of your designs on My Space and it is perfect for what I wanted. People can actually read the text!!
Cheers
Glen
I came across this web site purely by accident. I have spent many hours looking for my space lay outs that were clean, plain, and tastefully done. Not only did I find my space layouts I liked ....I also found information that helped me with a web site I have been working on for over a year with no luck. This is one of those nice little life surprises that you find when you are not looking to find it.
Some how you need to get your tag words changed to where your web site shows up at the top of a Google search. I think more people would love to know about you. I will do my part in advertising for you by using your link on my page. Its very rare that I find something that I think is worthy of advertising for....and the main reason is to hopefully cut down on others who search for less. There is something to the old adage of..."Less is more".
Contrary to what Mae West seems to think......"Too much of a good thing is a wonderful thing.".....that is not always a correct statement. At least not in this case. Thanks again and I look forward to really using your site for various things.
jrwhiterabbit....;)
Jrwhiterabbit,
Re: "Some how you need to get your tag words changed to where your web site shows up at the top of a Google search"
Much thanks for your comments and believe me, I am doing my best. Competition is fierce and, in fact, your post touches upon all the key issues with the MySpace layout scene these days. Most MySpace resource sites cobble together a cheesy collection of boilermaker templates, slap it up on a turnkey site and then focus entirely on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Many of them use unscrupulous tactics, such as "link whoring", to cheat their way to the top of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). When I first got into making MySpace layouts, I was appalled by all this after which I decided to dedicate myself to providing a collection of quality layouts first and then work on getting visibility for my site. Yeah there's a lot of total crap out there, eh? Don't get me started... Sheesh-
Uh oh... I feel a rant coming on... Better quit while I'm ahead... (*chuckle*)...
...
TO ALL:
Much thanks for your comments!
Absolutely Brilliant site!!! I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to say much more than what has already been repeated above, but I stumbled across your site by accident and sheer luck, and it was exactly what I was looking for!! 38 by no means makes me an old lady, but come on with the glittery, cutsey crap out there!! Some of us appreciate having a page we are proud of and you provide the best layouts out there for class and elegance!
I'm SO very pleased with the look of my page after weeks of sorting through garbage - Many, many Thanks!!
Vicki
thank you for this site. It is one of very few legitimate myspace profile sites that I have found with out crazy adds all over it. Thank you thank you thank you! I am using one of your white profiles. Cheers and keep up the amazing work!
You are absolutely right on the crap...I honestly am curious to how hard my space is on the home computer. Some people have so much active content on their page it never fully down loads. Of course, I do not use My Space for what most use it for eiher. I keep up with the politicians and election from the blogs. I also have the Sthephen Covey types as well. The other reason was to learn how to make a site and the general concept. I still doubt the notion I would use some of the loud, multi colored obnoxious, templates that look like a race for commission. Crazy? absolutely.
On a more personal note here....it is rare to see someone use a quote or quotes in order to make a point. I find it refreshing that it's not completely a lost tool of communication.
As I was reading over the comments here I noticed this quote you posted from sometime back you used. I love this...I am such a huge fan of philosophical quotes ..
your quote was....
"“Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction.†~ Albert Einstein"
;) How true is that first sentence. It reminds me of another famous Einstein quote.... "It's not that I am so smart...I just stay with problems longer" and...." Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.."
Talk about getting into a long debate...don't get me started on philosophy.. I guess one might say I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious... :) I am told way to often I pack to much passion and that I should leave it elsewhere ....I beg to differ on that one. To have passion solidifies a remarkable understanding that no education can compete with. One thing you can't fake is passion... no matter how hard you try.
.
Thanks again for addressing my comment. I am going to work on my profile AT some point tomorrow. When I finish it I will post the link back AND YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT...!
Jrwhiterabbit.
Jrwhiterabbit,
Thanks for your comments but just to clear up one point here... That wasn't me that quoted Einstein in post #166. That was Philip. :-)
I apologize for that. By profession I am a speed reader and often what they do not teach you in those professional classes is how easy you can over look important details. :)
What IS funny about that is the spelling of the name Philip .... I have a saying that simply states... We must watch out for two types of people. One is the person who alteranates the lEttErs iN woRDs with UpPer and lower cASe letters and Philip's who spell their name with one L. Espcially the PhiLIps. :) No lie... that is quite funny to me.
Can I ask you something? Who writes the content on these pages? Aside from being useful...it's quite funny. I was reading the "How to make a crappy web site" and laughed until I hurt. Who ever wtote that brought it to life well in my imagination. For I could see this page really well. But who ever does your content is a rather funny person. They should be doing stand up comedy as a side job. Maybe it's so funny because from experience we have all been where the dialect takes us.
Oh...here is the link to my web site... Just now starting to work and play around on it. I know sometimes by sheer ability I can complicate even the simple strategies.....so in an effort to be able to undo those little challenges I copy and paste each section in a seperate email and send it to myself labeled with the appropriate section. I know how I am. Although it may take me longer to get started...I can rest assured that what ever mistake I manage to bring to life can be undone. Makes one more willing to try different things. I like to call that my forecasting of stupidity. Because there will always be stupidity and to prepare for it.... is the responsible thing to do. :)
Have a great day!!
Jrwhiterabbit,
Re: "Who writes the content on these pages?"
I do. All of it. This is a one-man show here. And thanks. :)
By the way, I can't see your profile because you have it set on private. You'll have to add me as a friend.
http://www.myspace.com/ironspider_ca
I just sent a request for friend on my space. That is another ironic thing about my space....that sounds so elementary. It's like saying.....Do you like me Yes____or No______ but according to the content within "my" myspace site I will utilize the privacy option. However, I removed the restricted privacy this morning ....but went ahead and added you simply because I will put it back on at some point. Slows down the proverbial spammers and sexual engineers (politically correct terminology for "perverts")..
I have managed to get the back ground changed. I have traces of the other profile left that I had edited out side the cookie cutter template I used before. Oh, not to mention removing the big Yellow NCAA highlight box....since the NCAA tourney is over. But now that I have changed the background...I can get down to customizing it like I want in the boxes.
Actually I am reading some of your tutorials now on the contact box and looking for the extended banner generator thing.
Keep a check on it because it usually takes me a few hours to move and copy stuff and fix what I see that needs rearranged. I rearranged it by my standards on the last profile I had ...it will take me some time to figure out where I hid all the stuff.
Awsome site man, It realy helped me out with the hyperlinking and all..
Thank you
I cannot believe how helpful this site is. I commend the author and I really appreciate what you have done. 1000 Kudos!!! I really mean it. Awesome!
Peace,
Challz
Rob,
This site is great! I'm not auditioning for a Frosted Flakes commercial, so I didn't draw out that last word, but it truly is great :-). Finally I can say adios to those unevenly cut, glitter-doused, image-clashing sites.
When I first got a Myspace page, I had the standard default and looked around for a layout I liked. I prefer dark, simple, yet creative layouts that don't scream. Being a novice, I went ahead and designed my own layout--from scratch--that was black with a few dark colors and a modest background image. I love it, but no other sites offered similar, subtle options when I wanted a change. Then I came to yours. Your uses of color blending, shadow, font style, and images are very easy on the eyes. Tastefully done. Simple? Maybe. But the catchiest songs are often the simplest riffs and chords that people trying too hard for a hit will miss.
I'm using one of your layouts now (legally, of course) and have a few others I dig should I want a change. Keep up the second-to-none work!
All best,
Jason
Rob, Shalom and mega kudos, well I have to say that this is the best site I have visited, the information is both commically helpful and simply informitive. Thank You so much for this site it has helped me decide to go with godaddy, and lunarpages. keep up the great work and HaSHems blessings upon you. R Yoshi
Thank You, As a CTO with beginning skills in html, in the midst of redoing our web site came upon your site from a Google search. I referred to your site for reference many times. Here's why, so many other sites want you to go frameless while reading the fine lines of the problems, I decided it was the simplest method to guarantee user browser preferences and multi browser compatibility. You state it right on and loud for us without egghead skills in web building, use tables. You got my love right there. Well written simple instructions in css has got my next redo already in the works while finishing this one in html 4.0 trad. This type of information and free templates will have me looking at any services you are, or will be offering in the future because of what you've done here without asking for anything but respect. When I get some time, Ill be back as I reward business with this type of behavior. Humble apologies but I have to ask " Are you as good as you seem"
Bob
Hi Rob - the EZ layout creator is great! One option that would be nice though - making the banner at the top clickable. Oh and another - rollover buttons. Thanks! :-)
http://www.myspace.com/templescene
Much thanks for the feedback! :o)
Ric,
Thanks for your input on the Super EZ Profile Tweaker. A clickable banner is doable. I'll take that into consideration. Rollover buttons are impossible though because MySpace does not permit us to use Javascript. You can however use the Link Code Maker in the Profile Tweaker to make simple mouseover effects on links. Go to the Link Code Maker and select a background color under "Mouseover link styles".
I enjoyed the site. I have to say the tutorials are refreshing compaired to some of the others I've seen on the web. Your definatly getting bookmarked. Which happens to very few sites. Props to yah. Anyway being somewhat experienced with web design. I realy enjoyed the "How to Make a Real Crappy Web Page". You should make an example, ha, that would be good. I still have a lot left to look at but I hope there is info on creating a feedback page like yours. Currently I have a form that send an e-mail. Not exazactly what i've been trying for. I like how yours post to the page.
Keep up the great work.
Sean http://www.sanctum.has.it
I am 46 years old. I don't want the fru-fru glam layouts. I want a simple, productive layout that will express more of my personality. I have been through the flash toys and music players and I am now into minimalism fitting for my age and maturity. Thank you!!! I have bookmarked your page and will be using it often!!! You are definitely filling need here in the internet community.
I have been looking for a nice, clean, crisp layout for my book review MySpace for over a month. Your Professional MySpace Layouts 2 - 05 is perfect!
the most helpful web design site on the net - hands down! this kind of information is extremely valuable and often only available for a price. we are all very fortunate that people like Bob take the time to share their knowledge with us.
thank you very much!
I commend you on your very informative site. I had never had anything to do with html code before but since following your guidelines I have been able to create my own web pages just the way I want them. There are alot of sites with readily made html codes for copying and pasting but I prefer to be creative and make my own. Finding your page was a godsend and I tell everyone who asks exactly that. A big thank you! Hugsssssssss
Hi!
One more idea for EZ Profile creator - allowing the banner to be put at the very top, above the MySpace adverts, like this:
myspace.com/shatteredatom
Also, if you look at their name (above the profile picture) they are actually using a graphic. I would love to be able to do this, or at least to change the font there.
Thanks again!
Ric - myspace.com/templescene
Thanks for your feedback! :o)
Ric,
I don't support putting the header banner above the MySpace ad because even though it is not mentioned in the MySpace Terms of Use agreement, pushing the MySpace ad down 'below the fold' steps on the spirit of the agreement. Social networks like MySpace are having a difficult time as it is monetizing their sites. Pushing the banner ad down 'below the fold' (below the fold = out of sight below the bottom edge of a user's web browser when they first open a web page) only makes matters worse.
Re: Your suggestion to have the display name as a graphic.. duly noted. Thanks for your feedback.
Terrific site, terrific MySpace layouts and generators, and a great bargain for the link removal license. What looked to be a bothersome, lengthy task after a few days of Googling, was made effortless for a small price. I got a clean looking professional MySpace site up and running in no time, and now I can concentrate on what I went there for. Also, top notch, honest customer service. They're truly on top of things. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks so much for the great information on your site!
Thank you so very much for putting up the website templates. I am using on of yours at the moment and I just love it. Didn't have any problem putting it full of php code afterwards.
Two thumbs up, keep up the good work!
Thanks for putting such a great support on the web, and that is free !
I am new to HTML. want to use all these hints possible.
Great efforts !
Thanks a lot
Raj
Thank you.
Your site is so helpful.
I passed my XHTML finals with the help from your site.
So Thanks again!
Thanks for your feedback! :o)
Dani,
Wow. Far out. Congratulations!
Hi!
Unfortunately all the newfangled changes at MySpace seem to have broken layouts made with the Profile Creator - e.g. myspace.com/templescene
:-(
Ric,
Yes those newfangled changes were particularly hard on all MySpace layouts (not just mine) that used a header banner. I have posted a quick copy-and-paste Header Banner Code Fix on my MySpace blog. Install that code fix and the positioning of your header banner will return to normal. The Super EZ Profile Tweaker will be updated ASAP (just waiting for the dust to settle with all the new code changes at MySpace).
Thanks Rob!
Unfortunately now they've broken the Edit Profile system so I can't get at the HTML (it's showing the options that would be there on a personal profile, and hiding the correct band ones, which contain the HTML.).
Oh well...
Ric,
Wow... That's pretty weird. Did you try clicking on Safe Mode? Not to invalidate your experience but I just tried my test band profile and I could load the Profile Edit screen no problem (or rather the 'Safe Mode' profile edit screen). Anyway, MySpace has been super-glitchy since they implemented the new profile changes. If the situation persists, just wait a few hours and try again.
Aha! I can get it in safe mode. Unfortunately, in safe mode there are no line breaks so all the different HTML things I have pasted in there are on big jumble...
I hope their changes are more than just cosmetic. I think MySpace is a mess behind the scenes...
By the way, I've submitted your "How To Make A Real Crappy Web Page" article to digg :-)
http://digg.com/programming/How_To_Make_A_Real_Crappy_Web_Page
Me again! I put in your new header banner code fix, but it is still slightly out of alignment (paritally covering up the menu bar). "margin-bottom" changes the gap underneath the banner, but the {top} bit seems to have no effect. Thanks!
Ric,
When you go into Safe Mode, click on the Edit link below your Bio box and you'll be taken into the screen that has editable text boxes. Everything in those text boxes retains the original line breaks of the way you entered all your codes and stuff. You didn't go far enough into Safe Mode. Go all the way. Click on Safe Mode and then click on the Edit link.
Re: Submitting my article to Digg - Thanks!
Re: Your banner - I see that you modified the banner code fix. However in this line of code:
.bannerDIV {top: 220px;}
...you put too high of a number. Lower that number and your banner will move higher up. Keep adjusting that number until your banner is in position. It should be around 170px but that may vary according to the height of your banner.
This site is worth recommending to beginners in HTML and site building because:
Its tutorials are written simply and are easy to understand.
Excellent examples and illustrations
Cheers for the HTML-Kit setup guide - love the editor but after a fresh install I couldn't figure out how to get my tabs working correctly again, disaster!
Dave,
Not enough information.
Hi, Rob,
You are a total freaking genius. Your website is concise, informative and incredibly enjoyable to peruse. I got a tremendous hoot out of your wry instructions for building a crappy web site. Finally, your myspace layout designs are just incredible...subtle, lush, beautiful to behold. Thank you for sharing your substantial gifts with us mere mortals!!
I absolutely love your site; you have exactly what I have been looking for & although my MySpace page looks slightly different from the preview (which I can assure you is due to operator, i.e. my, error), I have to say that I think it looks rather spiffy.
Keep up the great work & have a good weekend!
-Amanda :)
OH MY GAH! This is the most incredible gift of God in all of cyberspace!! I simply got sick of my layouts etc. from other generators either not showing up at all, or clearly dissatisfying my goals. So i googled for a free advanced myspace profile generator, and you were the number one link! I don't think I'll ever be the same! haha I fully intend to pass the word around. Wow this is the greatest thing ever!! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STINKIN MUCH! I COULD JUST KISS YOU! lol :) God bless YOU! Praise Jesus. I'm so excited for my new journey! And when I get $12, I hope your limited time offer is still intact. ;] YEY!!!
Hey Rob
I am have been using the Profile Tweaker for image coding but have one issue... instead of adding one photo beneath the other, they are adding side by side (in the Band Members area). How do I fix this? I have tried the tag but its not working. It just shifts the photo down a few spaces. I figure there has to be an easy way to do this. Thanks again for such stellar info!
Cheers!
Argh - it was the "br" tag that I mentioned...
I love your clarity and humor. As someone who knew nothing about html, etc., I have to say "thanks" for simplifying things.
I don't understand your explanation nor exactly what you're trying to accomplish. You said you tried using the <br> tag but it just shifted the photo down a few spaces? If you want the photos to stack vertically, simply select "center" for the 'Select the alignment' option. I took a look at your page and I've seen that you've done that and the photos are indeed stacking vertically. Everything looks fine. Maybe a little too much space between the photos. I also see that you stuck in some <br> tags. Remove those <br> tags to reduce the space between the photos. If you have any further issues, use the Profile Tweaker as intended and don't try to modify the code afterwards. Get back to me with a description of the issue and PLEASE post your MySpace URL along with your comment. It saves me a lot of time having to hunt through my database. Thanks.
I started with your 3 column simple page layout to create a home page for my wine store. It's corkandoliveocoee.com Anyway I noodled around with your template using a book I bought. HtML Xhtml and css by Elizabeth Castro sixth edition.
Maybe you could post / create some more simple ones?
Thanks
Steve
Steve,
Did you see these example layouts? They're as simple as can be...
Example Table Layouts
WOWWWWW! Lightning speed! My page loaded like a stick o' dynamite. I am REALLY impressed. I was SO fed up with layout sights like pyzam (I think that's the name) and others that lock up my computer and take SOOOOOO long to load. Who has time for that??? So thank you. You really are a class act. Never thought I would be emailing to say thank you for a lay out. But your page actually sounds like there is a respectable human being with brains on the other side of it. Not some 14 year old with ADD. haha. Thanks again!!!
Jennifer
Hey man, I just want to say how amazing your Myspace layouts are. They actualy have class. Every other layout on the internet is a recycled piece of garbage with shiny stuff wrapped together with cheap designs and graphics.
Thanks so much ^.^
Nothing but your layouts for me.
My myspace deserves nothing but the best ;)
Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial on "customizing" HTML-Kit. I'm a web designer wanna be and all the options were a little over whelming. Now that I can part things down and actually see the editing window, the sea of web design doesn't looks so inhospitable any more. Kudos on your site. I really enjoy it.
Oh my gosh! I wish I had had stumbled across this site first! I wasted a lot of time, not getting anywhere. Your layout generator was so easy to use and I got just the results I wanted!
I'm going to refer everyone to this site.
THANKS!!
I used your site and one of your templates to build my business site (still tweaking the contents). It was so easy, (considering I had no experience at all with html)that I included your site on my links page. Thanks so much for your tutorial!
http://1040-irstaxhelp.com/
Thank you so much for this website. You're a great teacher who uses fun. And, more importantly, makes it look possible to achieve, even for a first-timer!
Thanks!!
Best,
Margot
Thank you so much for the myspace layout. I chose one of your simple red layouts and it's awesome. I am like some of the others here that have made comments on other layouts on the net. I am 39 years old and I don't like all of the fru fru pages. I want something simple like you had to offer so once again, Thank you.
Nancy
Thank you for your website. It was just what I was looking for. I was looking for a "how-to" on making a webpage offline in notepad, and I found it. :D You have made my day, and I just wanted to drop you a little "Thank You"... So... Thank You!! :D
-MaidenBaka
Rob, Rob, Rob...you are a baaaad man! And I do mean GOOD! I have acheived a beautiful, peaceful, private My Space page totally void of all the irritating, invasive and silly doo-dads My Space is notorious for. You should go on the home shopping network and sell your profile tweaker. I hope you'll develop some backgrounds for Ning. It's a wonderful network with real freedom to upload what you want to from your own files. Also methinks its the best because a woman founded it. Thanks for all you've given and taught me!
I was so sick of all the fetid garbage I was finding everywhere else and somehow, I came upon your oasis. Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving respite from all of the sparkly glitter-happy, malware spreading, common trash out there.
Hi Rob,
I just want you to know that people like me wishes that there were more people like YOU. God Bless You. I am not a stupid person, I do have a college education, but never have been able to get the hang of "building websites, not even the templates that are so easy (ha). But thanks to you, I have a most beautiful MySpace site. My first invitation to become my FRIEND goes to you, come on over (www.myspace.com/wjb2008)!! Thank you again
Hi, Rob. I just looked at MySpace layout on a PC away from home. My layout is even more beautiful than I already knew it was! Sooo, that means I need to thank you again for your brilliance and generosity. God gave you so much talent. And I have something else to thank you for. The inspiration you gave me. I am now in school for web design. I'm learning Java# and Visual Basic programming languages...it's a far cry harder than HTML but I'm finally writing programs. I'll get there--someday. Your friend, Charlee.
Hey congratulations on starting web design school!
TO ALL:
Much thanks for your feedback!
Thank you so much for this site Rob. I would like to be a web/graphic designer one day, and your site has inspired me even more. You actually helped me to undertand what HTML is how to use it. Also, the layouts are just excellent; I'll probably use Iron Spider exclusively from now on.
Thanks for your "resize friends comments" code!
I never had time to analyze the (in my opinion a bit disturbing) code myspace determines.
Perhaps I've to do a short outing: I'm not really into webdesign but as far it could be understood logically, at least it's possible to "read" the codes.
Keep on sharing your knowledge (at least there could be fewer examples of crappy code that disturbe content! I guess surfing the net would feel more comfortable then)
You have a very nice piece of Real Estate here.
I liked the linked pages but I think if I used it I would leave out the Add To Favourites because it does not work as well for all browsers.
Now if you could think of a way so that when people tried to Add to Favourites in Firefox they did not end up in the SideBar when they came back to Firefox the next day that would be great....
So Good and Bad in this comment...
All across the board... YOU ARE SUCH A CLASS ACT.
BTW: I made the big girl move and upgraded to Mozilla Firefox and to my surprise my layout looks even better.
Speaking of upgrades...My Space just launched a 2.0 profile with movable modules and enhanced privacy since you can determine which friends see what in your profile. However the layouts it offers, for now anyway, are horrific.
Since I prefer yours by far, have you any plans to design layouts which are compatible with Profiles 2.0?
Charlee,
Possibly. But the new MySpace Profile 2.0 is a whole new bag of marbles. Not sure if I'll be making layouts for that yet. And besides, they're still working the bugs out.
i liked ironspider, this is fine and good for both begginer and expert webdevlopers...
Oh Oh how exciting the code worked just as you said. It was very easy to load onto my Myspace layout and a really Fantasmigoricle layout, thanks truly .
So before I forget my manners, thanks for taking the time to produce them and very kind of you to post them for us lesser mortals to use.I prefer it with your tag as all credit to you for all your hard work and artistic abilitys...I would have added you as a friend, but due to my staggeringly low IQ I haven't been able to find your Myspace page....Doh....I'll keep looking ....Take care all round great site. Thanks Paul...
Paul,
On the contrary regarding your IQ... Using my layouts automatically qualifies you as brilliant! :o)
My MySpace page is here:
http://www.myspace.com/ironspider_ca
THANK YOU!!!! I am in school now for Web Development and I have read a 200+ page text book and done about 20 assignments...and I have learned more about HTML and CSS from your website in about 10 minutes then I have learned all semester!
I want to say...you have an amazing way of teaching this material! I can actually do my final project now.
There is only 1 question left..What can I make out of this textbook that will be useful.
-Melissa
I LOVE YOU! God bless your soul! Where were you and why did I not find you before pulling half of my hair out? I've yet to explore all your amazing site! I've only used your MySpace layout help; any more user-friendly and you would've made it for me. THANK-YOU!
Thanks for this wonderful web site. It had me laughing out loud, firstly I liked the style of your writing, like you are talking to me. I just wanted a review of text editors and your site came up. Then I went on to the 'how to make a really crappy web site' page. Fantastic, I know sites that fulfill most of the requirements. I would like to link to that page in a blog coming up shortly. Many thanks and keep up the good works.
Love etc - Richard Singleton
Thank you thank you thank you for this page. In two days I went from knowing nothing about HTML to being able to actually write one up. Everything in here was easy to follow commands and well laid out. I'm usually the type to learn stuff by doing not reading, but you had enough examples to actually work. I can't imagine a better introduction to web design.
for 1st time in my life i understood css so easily and used it too! thnk u! im a commercial artist webdesigner by profession.
Not sure how/where I found you but really glad I did. Working on my first site and downoaded one of your free templates, will use various versions of it to build my site. The web hosting company I am using also has free templates but they do not suit my tastes and are not as easy to use as yours. Great job! In will be a while before I go live, but will let you know so you can see what a total newb can do with your help!
The best cgi formmail configuration tutorial I have ever come across...If you cant get up and runnning using the simple to folow instructions you must be brain dead..
Love your 'My Web Host is Out to Lunch' - brilliant, saved me heaps of time.
Congratulations on a great site.
Thank you for all your advice went with mydaddy for email and domain and am using Lunarpages for my hosting.
I refeered Lunarpages to your site so hopefully you will get some comission as I read many do.
may i add to promote the use of coupons! I saved a small fortune googleing mydaddy coupons and lunarpages coupons!
all the best and thanks for your hard work.
Feel free to email me
Richy
Just great!
Simple, direct, numerous examples, covers all the basics and not only.
I rarely enjoy a site that much.
Dani
There is no element of hypocrisy in my word!!!!!!Your tutorials meet the fundamentals of a professional web designer. To be candid,I have searched round the whole world wide webs and I've seen nothing as incredible as your website.
A big thank u and more greese to your elbows.
Please don't hesitate to fire me recent tips.
Than you very much this website has been very down to earth and informative.
It was refreshing after some of those sites where you search "how to make a style sheet" and you get about 3 lines of jargon for super-nerds. It has been very helpful. However, are you still updating this site?
If so, are you going to include any even more advanced stuff: like how to add my own feedback page! or customizing your own video-player controls or java?
Ben,
The MySpace Layouts are updated all the time. As for adding new web design tutorials, not for the moment because my hands are full with another web-related project. But very quickly, you can easily create a feedback page by installing Wordpress on your website.
I am trying to learn how to correct HTML errors on my website and have found your excellent tutorial about setting up HTML kit and have done all as you have suggested....
HOWEVER....I still don't know how to fix errors and validate my website....
Adding such tutorial and how to implement HTML Tydi would be much appreciated....
Thank you so much!
great layouts...i'll be using the white or the purple :D
Mubera,
The best way to validate your HTML is to use the online W3C Validation service. HTML errors are varied and often complex. After the validation process, the W3C validator will spit out a little blurb telling you what is most likely the cause of each error. I doubt very much I could improve on that service. You should check it out.
Excellent layouts ... very clean and professional! For a while I was using your electric piano background but recently uploaded my own (www.myspace.com/janiferb). Your editors are incredibly easy and fun to use; I've also turned a few friends on to your site. Bless you and much thanks!
P.S. My son just LOVES your avatar on the editor preview pages.
actually it would be nice if there were even more options, like being able to put a picture url in for the tables and then being able to have different levels of transparency for the table backgrounds... i say the more detail options the better...
Trent,
Yes, I omitted the option to include a background for the tables because many people will end up choosing a high contrast background that makes the text hard to read. As for the transparency level on the tables, that is indeed included in the Advanced Editor (go to the Tweaks tab and click to check the 'Use opacity filter?' option. A dropdown menu will appear allowing you to set the transparency).
Just used your "creatng a simple feedback form" tutorial. It's absolutely fantastic. Simple, easy to follow and funny at all the right momenets. Thank you
My 25 year old daughter is involved with the myspace community and kept asking me to get a page going. I am not into the scene and think the glitter and junk is tacky until I came across your website by putting "classy my space layouts" in Google. I am currently using the roses in the china coffee cup and I love it. Thank you for providing a very polished alternative to mainstream myspace. It was so simple, I was surprised.
Carla
SOS!!! I'm so frustrated. I built a whole site using one of your easy templates and now when I try to upload, it doesn't display properly. I'm relatively savvy as I built my own site a year or so ago and thought this would be a piece of cake. After much frustration, I tried loading your download as is without my tweaking with name, logo and all that. It doesn't load properly either. So what could be wrong??? Please hurry and respond. I need this site up asap!!! Thanks, JoAnn
JoAnn,
What's the URL of your website?
We LOVE IronSpider. Ron, your work is so helpful. Over and over again. We had Claudia's website redesigned a few months ago (very pretty) but for adding new pages, your tips are the best.
Mary would be lost without you....
and the website would look worse.
Instead we're doing great.
http://www.cabaret-paree.com
Thanks Claudia! And to all others as well... Thanks for your feedback!
By the way, for the benefit of one and all, my name is Rob, not Ron. :o)
Thanks man. Appreciated the pure black SIMPLE layout. Don't need all this bullshit that exists on the net. HOpefully others will find you through your advert on my page now. Peace and thanks again you have helped someone out.
Hey, Rob:
FYI: If you haven't already been told these things, I just want you to know that nothing's changed. Going to school for web design is a major waste of time and money. None of the instructors know jack squat because they don't keep up on the trade anymore. On top of this, things change so fast our heavy, expensive textbooks aren't reliable so the instructors tell us to go online and compile lists of websites to use and, ultimately teach ourselves.
SO WHY ARE WE PAYING TO TO GO TO SCHOOL?
Even as I advance I'm still learning more from you than anywhere else, and believe me, I've been all over, including the W3C tutorial site.
You have a rare gift for making subject matter easy for most people to understand. You'd be amazed at how far I've come along, thanks to your sites, Rob.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YA!!!
Thank you thank you for clearing up the mystery of HTML-Kit using XHTML tags when writing in HTML! I thought it was a bug, couldn't find anything about it on the HMTL-Kit website, and found your website while looking for another editor (as a last resort). Now I can continue promoting the Kit, for I too find it a great editor.
First of all thank you so much for this site, it has been really helpful for me! I am a small business owner and need to build my own site. I have had no training whatever in regards to building a site and have never done one before and this site has been truly a God send for me!
That said I do have one question. I have followed all of the steps of your instructions and found them so wonderfully easy to follow however; I did encounter one problem that I can't figure out.
I added a photo to my page and centered the photo it was centered directly under the Title which is exactly what I wanted. Then I wanted to add text to each side of the picture. It did work as there is text on each side of the photo but for some reason the photo shifted toward the left side. Now it looks like it is centered between the center and the left side it still has the lines of text on each side of the picture but now it isn’t centered. I can not understand why this has happened. I followed exactly word for word your instructions.
Can you help? I’d sure appreciate any input about this.
Traci,
It'd be a lot easier if you just posted a link to the affected web page so that I could take a look at what you've done.
I really like that in your HTML tutoral, you used differnt colors. I am going to show my students some HTML examples and this will really help them see/read the code...Also, love the free layouts, I plan on sharing them with other teachers.
Thanks!
I liked your info and was glad to learn to wrap in HTML-kit. But the way your site displays -- in my IE7 on a 15" screen, 1/4 of your page is just a vertical light-blue strip vertically on the right side. What is wrong???
Thanks.
Rich,
I don't know. Over the years, I've viewed my site on many different computers in all the major web browsers and there has never been an issue. Can you post a screenshot to Photobucket or something like that?
Thank you so much for such a wonderful, helpful, comprehensive, informative and exciting to follow website.
Also a HUGE thank you for taking the time to look into my specific website questions.
Admiration and indebted...x
Do you remember WordStar - about 1980 - 83. I am having great fun with your tutorial so far. It is using the same conventions as good old WS. ie. will print as bolded type Then along came WYSIWYG in WordPerfect and (yuck)MSWord. Now 25 years later I've come back. Your instructions perfectly clear.
thank you, thank you very much
Great tutorial - it's clear, concise and very easy to read with an appropriate bit of humour here and there.
I feel empowered now I've read part way through so I'm definitely going to go through the whole lot.
Many thanks for the effort you put into helping people like me.
Thank you so much for creating this site. I have my own site and was looking for a html editor so I can start uploading my own pages and move off the web based page builder that I've been using.
I tried the WYSIWYG editor that was suggested and I hate it. I'm a "not quite novice" who prefers to work with code!! Slowly but surely I've learned enough html that now I actually prefer it and work faster with code!!
I use notepad but wanted an actual html web page builder with some basic bells and whistles. All the ones that were suggested to me cost a fee, and I found Arachnaphilia a little clunky. Well I found your site and now I have Alleycode! It's perfect!
It only took me about 10 minutes to get the hang of it including changing the settings to suit my needs and now I'm ready to roll. I'm definitely bookmarking your site because I see there is A LOT of useful info here in a very clean, simple format that works for someone like me.
I'm a WAHM with a very tight budget. I'm learning all this on my own and sites like yours make it possible for someone like me to succeed on the net.
Thank you sooooo much!!! :)
phew i have to give you a heart felt thank you. I got tired of being out of the loop as far as html coding and I think I'll be able to pick this up rather quickly... Biggest motivator atm is to be able to make a gnarly myspace layout. ... Not just some "same as everyone else profile"... I want to make a work of art ... Blah I'm rambling. Any how .. Thank you
THANK U SO MUCH GUYS!!!!
I am an Italian complete programming noob, with just some school basics knowledge...
I was setting up a nive web-site with iWeb a mac-anti-programmer-nice application to create websites...
I decided i wanted to put a mail form and got stuck of free but crap web tool services...
Then i found http://www.ironspider.ca/forms/simpleform.htm
U GAVE ME SO MUCH MORE U TEACHED ME HOW TO DO IT BY MYSELF!!!!!!!
THANK GUYS! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!
Marko
Superb website. So helpful and easy to understand for the beginner-(that's me!) Thank you so much for your efforts and time in your wonderful information!!
I'd been having some trouble understanding the span function with tables for my site i'm building http://www.romanmidnightmusic.org/studio.html. I always ended up with what looked like a missing table. Nothing online was helpful, or i should say it was too basic! Then, I found your site! Immediate help! I'm bookmarking your site for future help!
Hi Rob.
HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY!
(I had a look at your MySpace profile)
It has taken me over a day to search the Net
for free website templates and I was very
disappointed since most of the ones I came
across were either very cluttered, too
garish, too naff or just plain boring.
I thank God, your Mom or whomever, that you
were born so clever and creative. Your
templates are miles (lots more than 9) ahead
of the rest. They are the cat's whiskers.
I liked so many of them that I couldn't
decide which one to download. I need to have
a website live as soon as possible, so I
downloaded a couple (more actually) of
templates - one to do quickly and one to take
my time over and try to be creative with.
I also spent hours looking through your
tutorials. You are a great communicator and
you make it all seem so easy.
You have saved me a small fortune and as I am
currently unemployed, I thank you from the
bottom of my big heart. You deserve all the
top business that you desire.
Light and love (Platonic)
Gabrielle
PS - I'm starting a life coaching business
here in London and would love to see a
PhotoShop-ed urban scape of the Thames with
Waterloo Bridge and the Houses of Parliament
(where all the scheming and plotting happens),
instead of New York City. Any
chance of a free template like that?
Gabrielle,
Thank you so much for the birthday greeting! :o)
Regarding your request (Making a layout with a Photoshop-ed urban scape of the Thames): Humble apologies but that's highly unlikely. Dealing with copyright issues on other people's photos is a humongous hassle (even supposed the copyright-free stuff) so I gave up doing that a long time ago. Now all my layouts are made from photos that I actually took myself with my own camera. So unless I actually visit London... (you see where I'm going with this...?)
Hello Rob.
No problem. I'll try to get a panoramic snap of the Thames and the Houses of Parliament this summer (I don't want that classic "London grey skies" look). The view from the London Eye (that giant ferris wheel) is magic on a clear day. What resolution would the image need to be to be used across the top of a webpage? Then I'll send it to you and you can use it whichever way you like, infinitely.
Ciao,
Gabrielle
Gabrielle,
Humble apologies, but I really have a strict policy of not making layouts from other people's photos. Moreover, I don't really do custom layout requests (not even for a fee). Once again, I'm sorry. Thanks again for the birthday greeting.
Gid Bless You.
You helped through designing and hosting my website.
Thanks
Regarding frames...I still use them. Love 'em. I know the arguments against them, but I still enjoy the speed at which frame-based web sites operate. When developers starting ditching frames it was obvious. The web pages had to load the same data again and again with each click when it was needless. In short, users saw slower loading pages especially when graphics were in the header or navigation panes. Firewall and virus scan software review the same data again and again when it was already scanned and had not changed.
What is the best alternative to move away from frames that avoids the needless tranmission and processing of portions of the page that have not changed?
RPS,
Many portions of a web page do not need to be reloaded again because they're cached by the client's browser (e.g., images, CSS files, etc.). As for alternatives, not sure why you're asking if you still love frames but SSI is a good alternative. I have a page on SSI in the HTML Frames section of this site.
I saw the SSI explanation you provided which is what first directed me here. I am looking for the best alternative to frames so that I can design apps that use the current, popular methods.
My question is now this...If the include directives result in sending the HTML of the unchanged header, footer, and navigation portions how can any of that be cached to avoid transmission and processing in the first place? The server-side fetches, transmission to user host, and scanning by user's virus s/w still occur whether or not the user's PC decides to repaint those graphics...correct? So the effects of caching are minimal in regard to that respect, I believe.
To move into present design methods do I have to accept that the optimization (speed) offered by frames is just lost?
Just used your site to set-up HTML-kit. What a huge help! Easy and fun to read. I'll definitely be back for more help.
Thank you very much. Your website has helped so much in designing a website for my class project.

a great work of online art. helped me begin the process of building my site. a reliable source of information regarding html, css, ssi, and web hosting
Hey just wanted to say great site, you have helped me *and a few of my instructors of my CST program* with quite a few explanations and easy to use guides for pretty much everything we have needed to find.
I plan on posting your up on our campus portal for anyone who just might need it
Have a great day
Great.. check that - Terrific site, Mr. Darrell! Lots of good info for a novice to web development, and probably more advanced users, too. Will recommend to my friends and family... Have some questions I will address to you elsewhere. (no spam-bot here!)
Rob - you WRITE like I LEARN ! !
Cudos to you!!
I was asked to create a website for my new employer and hopped on the internet searching for web page templates, free download . . . and found Iron Spider (and your exceptional talent!).
Will let you know what the link is when I'm finished so YOU can see OUR handiwork
Hi Rob
Just wanna say a sincere thank you for all the brilliant stuff on the Iron Spider website. Very helpful tutorials and reference. Especially the really useful stuff on HTML Kit. Thanx a bundle.

Thanks heaps. I finally stumbled across your page after hours of searching for some decent layout code. Nice work.
Will you ever make these layouts for the 2.0. profile? Cause i love your work but they dont work on 2.0 and i cant go back to 1.0.
I found your site looking for help with colspan (which works now thank you!). I found the pages on the different types of lists very interesting as I'd used ul and ol in the past in a very limited way but didn't know they could be stacked etc. I have no immediate use for it but found it very interesting and hope to put the info to good use in the future. I like days where I learn something new!
Ok, you even have stuff on here in terms simple enough for me. I congratulate you on that.
this is a rly great site!! i dont rly kno much bout HTML but this is easy to understand. but i want to kno a code for alternating colors...
By far the most easy to understand information I've ever read about HTML. I have no coding background prior to this last year and everything I've learned has been pieced together from a number of sources. Always the missing piece has been understanding WHY this stuff works. It's easy enough to find the code to get whatever it is done you need done. But to find someone to explain step by step what it is and why it works, well...that's huge.
Great job and thank you for a fantastic resource. Truly...Jeb
Thank you for making such an easy and understandable "how to" web page. I have started from scratch and am making a web page for the project I am working on for my phd in marine biology. My supervisor is impressed and who can ask for more? Not online yet, but is coming.
Thank you! From Silje
This site is great! Many thanks. I will now be able to finish a personal art project that is important to me.
Thanks again.
I've created a few simple sites for myself and decided to create one for a client with the highly-lauded DreamWeaver. My own site -- kept simple -- went fine. The lady's site, OMG!, got snarled! Nothing went as planned! I went to bed after a 10-hour bout and had TRAPPED dreams! Aarrggh! So I went back in using simple HTML and your tutorial. Within 4 hours I had caught up with my previous milepost. Still work to do, but at this point I am sooo glad I found your site and extremely thankful you put in all this work. "Iron Spider" is on my list of greats.
--> Thank you.
I'm so glad I found this site. I'm in a XHTML/CSS class online and the resources the prof gave us for learning combining selectors were really unclear. Your descriptions were extremely helpful. The site is bookmarked and I'm sure I'll be using it a lot...
Just wanted to say a big Thank You for your tutorial on Form Mail. As supspectd the server had the wrong code for send mail posted on their website. I patiently went through all of the steps to remedy the problem, according to your instructions. It worked great!
Paul
Very great site! Thank you for all that good work!
I specially appreciate your section on free web hosting... very well documented! (I hope that word is good... my english is not very good!) :)
Thank you very much... I will come back often for information!
