    Hi Rob!

I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate what you’ve done here in regards to the myspace backgrounds. I have no website, just a myspace that I couldn’t even access to update until a few days ago. I’m a confessed technotard. :)

Your backgrounds are outstanding, but I didn’t end up using one, and here’s why. I found your background editors, and they are so easy to use, with so many options, that I was able to put my own personal touches on my site that I never thought possible. I loved using it!

Like I said I’m a technotard, but ballsy, so I jumped right in and used your Advanced Editor (the new one) to create my background for myspace. I also used the Rich Text Editor, that is so cool!

Even for someone like me it was so easy! Follow your instructions and you can’t go wrong. I’m by no means a graphic artist or even really a creative type, but I tweaked some pics of my favourite musician and created a few different backgrounds for myspace from them.

It was rad! Loved it, can’t say enough about it, and am telling everyone to check out your site on their own or via the link on my page. :)

The url is http://www.myspace.com/pegasussoaring (and yeah, I know, I have to go back in and change the scroll bar colour, I keep forgetting lol) ;)

There’s really not much on it, just the basics, until I have time to do more. But I love that I can personalize it. So rad, thanks so much!

Very easy to navigate…the colors in everything are crisp and clear. Very easy to use clean layouts and i just learned some new stuff on making my own so im happy. I will definately tell my friends about this site. Thanx and keep up the good work.

Awesome site with plenty of useful infos to learn HTML & a great webmaster who took the time to help me mess around with his template ;-) Thanks for all Rob, this is much appreciated.

  4. Jessica says:

Your layouts are absolutely amazing. I’m so glad I found a site with tasteful and sophisticated layouts! Thank you so much!

  5. Rob says:

    #45,

You can just post under a pseudonym if you wish to remain anonymous. As for your question, my guess is that you have images posted in the right column of your page that are too wide and hence are spreading your layout out of proportion. Another thing that could be spreading your layout is someone posting a long unbroken string of text to your comments section like a whole string of ???????????????? …something like that. But I can’t be sure unless I actually see your layout. Can you post your MySpace URL? (Or email it to me.) Also, you might want to go over step #6 in my 7 Easy Steps to a Kick Ass MySpace Page tutorial.

  6. me says:

uhm how do i make the right column skinny because its stretchinng the right column nd ii love the layout im using!!!! so i do not want to change it
    soo what do i do?

  7. Dave says:

Awesome and easy to use. I like the previews so i could experiment until I found exactly what I wanted. Thanks

    Rob,
Just a THANK YOU. I became interested 6-mos prior when my oldest son showed me his profile. Was fun, but trivial, until I learned you could really teak ’em. This meant I finally got let my OCD take over and learn all I could…been at it ever since. Found your site three weeks back and have been a devoted visitor, reading everything you have available (I think…a lot of info, but very well put together and easy to follow). You’ve been an immense help sorting out all the sh*^ I’ve been trying to dislodge from the far reaches of my noggin’. Thank you by far the best info and relative links on one site i’ve come across (plus you’re not a group of 17-yr old UK kiddies with a god complex….there’s a few roaming as you well know)

Happy New Year Rob! And Thanks a bunch (I’ll be low maintenance and will respect /abide by all terms of use–might throw you an update later as the bulk learned lately is from here)

Pretty nice site, wants to see much more on it! :)

  12. Enigma says:

Thanks for a very helpful and well-thought out site. It’s been a long time since I’ve worked with html, and I quickly found that I’d forgotten much of it when I sat down to update some pages tonight. I was starting to think there was no way to do a couple of things I wanted to do when I found your site – and found the answers quickly and easily. Much appreciated!

  13. Maikki says:

Hi! Just wanted to thank you for this amazing site!
I was looking for help on how to do something (anything!) to my MySpace…
The MySpace itself offers no help (at least I couldn’t find any answers from there…) but luckily I found your site! You saved not only me but my computer as well, because I was ready to throw this thing out the window! But now I don’t have to because I learned how to do stuff to my page! Thanks a bunch!

  14. Rob says:

    Kevin,

Just to clarify, none of my layouts use Flash. Exactly what issues are you having with the display of the contact table? Are you perchance on a Mac computer using an old version of the Safari web browser? Also, could you post (or send me by email) your MySpace URL so that I could check out your layout code?

  15. kevin says:

Thank you so much, your a gentleman and a scholar. I hope i didnt offend you by asking how to add someone elses work to your already briliant page. i believe that i will keep your page just the way it is. although i might try what you mentioned… but if it doesnt work i am perfectly happy with the way it looks right now. the main reason i wanted to change it in the first place is i believe it runs on “flash” at least that is what a tech guy said at my work. which isnt visible through our firewall or the way the settings are here.. everyting besides the contact table runs GREAT!!!! like i said earlier you are the BOMB!!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN,
    Kevin

  16. Rob says:

    Kevin,

I don’t officially support mixing and matching my layout codes with codes taken from other sites. I explain this in full on my How to Install the Layout Codes page.

However, some have successfully used my layouts with contact tables taken from other sites. Your very best bet (and remember this is completely unofficial, if something goes wrong, you’re on your own…) is to use my Advanced MySpace Editor to make your layout (the background image in your current layout is available to use in this editor). Then, on the Tables tab, make sure you click to clear the Use customized contact table tweak. Then install the layout code and then install the other contact table code you’d like to use after my layout code, i.e., at the very end of the About Me text box.

If you don’t have time to do all that then you could try installing the other contact table code after my layout code that you have currently installed. This may or may not work. Once again, I make no guarantees.

  17. kevin says:

YOU ROCK! love the site! i, like everyone else that has posted here finaly found a layout sight that didnt suck ass. THANK YOU.

one question though… i also found a contactTable from another site that i would love to use on my page… how do i do that without destroying everything?

    i appreciat all your help!
    K,

  18. Dan says:

Thanks for making such great layouts. I wish other MySpace layout sites would put in as much effort as much as you clearly have, instead of creating countless ugly layouts and glitter graphics.

With previous layouts, I’ve always deleted the link at the end of the code, but I think you deserve some credit for all the work you’ve done.

    Dan

  19. Rob says:

    Erik,

You can easily make that layout to your specifications using my Advanced MySpace Editor. Load the editor and then on the Background tab, click on [Transparent tables – DARK TEXT] and then click on [Color PICKER] beside Background Color and select Black. Then switch to the Text tab and select the text colors of your choosing (humble apologies but I forget exactly which HSB settings I used for that pale yellow text color but I’m sure you can approximate a reasonable facsimile). For the Header link color and the Table link color I used ‘goldenrod’ (you can just type it in manually). On the Tables tab, you’ll notice that the default setting for the ‘Create evenly sized tables’ tweak is Yes (leave that as is). This will make the whole right column skinnier (including your Friend Space).

  20. Erik says:

I just wanted to tell you how much I liked the Dark on Light 1-01, but I did not like how wide the Top 8 was.

It’s too skinny, can you widen it somehow, please?
    Can you teach me to?

    Thanks!!!

    Much Love,

As an inveterate downloader and fiddler, I found HTML-kit and installed it. Minutes later, as my eyes started to glaze over, I found your tutorials. Rob, from vast experience on plowing through “introductory” texts, may I say that your clarity/humour/”keep-it-simple” approach/and layout (like those “why-i-do-this” pop-ups) should go into some “universal tech-writer’s handbook”.
Brilliant. Keep the good work flowing.
    Cheers – and thanks

WOW…..this site is fantastic. I used it for both Myspace and frappr pages using my own background picture. Thank you so much for helping me, no other site offers this much help. I will surely send my friends here.

  26. Michelle says:

Thank you so much for your professional My Space layouts. They were exactly what I was looking for! Everything else I found was so gaudy and horrible. Yours are so tasteful and attractive. I couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you so much again! :)

  31. leona daly says:

i searched the internet for hours to find what i needed for my site, to no avail until i came upone the iron spider site. as a professional musician, to get the kind of quality i found on this site would cost a very large sum indeed, so you can imagine my delight when i found music backgrounds of this quality for FREE! easy to use, easy to apply, what more could you ask for. if you are looking to update a website or myspace page, look no further. dont waste your time with other sites, they are much inferior to this… thanks

  32. Vicki says:

Your site is fantastic!! I keep coming back for more!!

  33. Greg says:

    Hey there =)

I am newer to myspace, and just wanted to let you know that you have the best generator I’ve seen around the net. I attempted to use another person’s code for the semi-transparent tables, but it lagged by page quite bad.

    Thanks again, cheers mate!

  34. Rob says:

    Hello Anna,

The reason why the ‘edit’ buttons have vanished from your Edit Profile screens is because you have installed a layout that hides the header navigation links that run across the top of your profile (Home, Browse, Search…etc). For regular Myspace users, this wouldn’t be a problem because about six months ago, all the Edit Profile screens were revamped so that they no longer applied the styles in layout codes (which was becoming a big problem). I don’t know why they didn’t revamp the Edit Profile screens for band profiles as well. So in effect, all the MySpace band profiles are still using the ‘old style’ Edit Profile screens.

    TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM:

There are two ways around this.

    1) The easiest is to simply go to your MySpace account home page and instead of clicking on the ‘Edit Profile’ link, click on the ‘Safe Mode’ link. The ‘Safe Mode’ link will take you to edit screens that don’t apply the styles of layout codes.

    OR…

    2) Apply this solution if you would like to use your Upcoming shows section because the ‘hide header/footer links’ tweak also hides the content of this section (I’m assuming you’re using Windows):

    A) Go to your MySpace account home page.
    B) Click on ‘Safe Mode’
    C) Click on the ‘Edit’ button below the box where your layout code is installed (typically in the ‘Bio’ box)
    D) On the next screen, click inside the box where your layout code is installed and press Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
    E) Use the Find dialog to do a search for this code:

    div table tbody td font {visibility: hidden;}

    F) Change ‘hidden’ to ‘visible’.
    G) Click on ‘Preview’ and then on the next screen, scroll to the bottom and click on ‘Submit’.

    All done.

Now you’ll be able to see the Edit links if you click on ‘Edit Profile’ and your Upcoming Shows section will display content correctly. However, your profile will now display all the MySpace header and footer links (an unavoidable side effect).

Sorry, and the URL for our space is…

    http://www.myspace.com/brandnewdayspace

  36. Anna says:

    Hi,

My band has put up a myspace and we used one of your codes and now cannot edit anything on the Band Details section because the buttons which say ‘edit’ have vanished. Can you please explain how this can be rectified.

    Yours,

    Anna

Thank you so much for your help and time. Mary K Burke

  38. Rob says:

Mary, What’s your MySpace URL? Also, I’m not sure what you mean by “there is no editing buttons”. Are you using a band profile?

  39. Mary Burke says:

Hi I got a template from iron spider which i was very pleased with how ever there is no editing buttons so i cant edit my my space. can you help please.

  40. Ryan says:

thanks for the help in creating my perfect myspace!

  41. magnet says:

you’re so awesome! i love this site, it has helped me soooo much!!!! thanks!

  42. VMPhoto says:

Thanks for the great site covering myspace and html in general. I am also a bit “long in the tooth” but still know my way around HTML (and 360 assembler!). It was nice to not have to spend a bunch of time trying to figure out a way to make a myspace page look presentable.

I now find myself coming back again and again to try to understand some of the quirks of myspsace.

    Again, thank you!

  43. Robert says:

WOW… This is truly the BEST site I’ve been to for MySpace layouts. Very Nice. Great tips too.

  44. Justin says:

Amazing work! Your site is clean cut and easy to navigate (which is hard to find these days). This is by far the most user friendly site I have ever seen, and there is a wealth of information to help other people create the same enviroment on their own pages.

I can’t even imagine how much time and effort you put in here…Thank you!

  45. Rhonda says:

just wanted to say Thanx!! I hated having the same cookie cutter layout as everyone else!!

  46. Katja, Stockholm says:

Thanks to you, I’m still alive!!
With the latest collapse of my computer I lost Visual Studios (the HTML-editor I normaly use).. So today I was going to try something new…ta tam.. the “HTML-Kit”..!!
But when I opend the program the first time I almost burst out in tears… fell of the chair…sold my self to a passing gypsy cirkus..you name it.. :)
..but then I found your guide in how to set up the HTML-kit.. phuuu.. that really saved my life!
So put that on your record: *saved on life.

    thanks!

  47. kath says:

hi there, i just wanted to say thankyou for your site, i’d spent what felt like hours trailing through myspace layouts when i came across yours and there it was not just one perfect one but several, so thanks for saving my brain from dribbling and keep up the excellent work.:)

  48. Emily says:

Thanks so much for your tasteful MySpace layouts. The default page was much too boring and the other layouts I’d found were so gaudy they gave me a headache – call me a snob but I just can’t believe anyone would use some of those – but Iron Spider was just right! Thanks again!

  49. Dave says:

Actually, Rob your step by step tutorials were instrumental in creating my site. I found myself returning often to browse the site for more help. Keep up the good work.
