    Rob,

This site is great! I’m not auditioning for a Frosted Flakes commercial, so I didn’t draw out that last word, but it truly is great :-). Finally I can say adios to those unevenly cut, glitter-doused, image-clashing sites.

When I first got a Myspace page, I had the standard default and looked around for a layout I liked. I prefer dark, simple, yet creative layouts that don’t scream. Being a novice, I went ahead and designed my own layout–from scratch–that was black with a few dark colors and a modest background image. I love it, but no other sites offered similar, subtle options when I wanted a change. Then I came to yours. Your uses of color blending, shadow, font style, and images are very easy on the eyes. Tastefully done. Simple? Maybe. But the catchiest songs are often the simplest riffs and chords that people trying too hard for a hit will miss.

I’m using one of your layouts now (legally, of course) and have a few others I dig should I want a change. Keep up the second-to-none work!

    All best,

    Jason

I just sent a request for friend on my space. That is another ironic thing about my space….that sounds so elementary. It’s like saying…..Do you like me Yes____or No______ but according to the content within “my” myspace site I will utilize the privacy option. However, I removed the restricted privacy this morning ….but went ahead and added you simply because I will put it back on at some point. Slows down the proverbial spammers and sexual engineers (politically correct terminology for “perverts”)..
I have managed to get the back ground changed. I have traces of the other profile left that I had edited out side the cookie cutter template I used before. Oh, not to mention removing the big Yellow NCAA highlight box….since the NCAA tourney is over. But now that I have changed the background…I can get down to customizing it like I want in the boxes.

Actually I am reading some of your tutorials now on the contact box and looking for the extended banner generator thing.

Keep a check on it because it usually takes me a few hours to move and copy stuff and fix what I see that needs rearranged. I rearranged it by my standards on the last profile I had …it will take me some time to figure out where I hid all the stuff.

    Jrwhiterabbit,

Re: “Who writes the content on these pages?”

I do. All of it. This is a one-man show here. And thanks. :)

By the way, I can’t see your profile because you have it set on private. You’ll have to add me as a friend.

  7. Jrwhiterabbit says:

I apologize for that. By profession I am a speed reader and often what they do not teach you in those professional classes is how easy you can over look important details. :)

What IS funny about that is the spelling of the name Philip …. I have a saying that simply states… We must watch out for two types of people. One is the person who alteranates the lEttErs iN woRDs with UpPer and lower cASe letters and Philip’s who spell their name with one L. Espcially the PhiLIps. :) No lie… that is quite funny to me.

Can I ask you something? Who writes the content on these pages? Aside from being useful…it’s quite funny. I was reading the “How to make a crappy web site” and laughed until I hurt. Who ever wtote that brought it to life well in my imagination. For I could see this page really well. But who ever does your content is a rather funny person. They should be doing stand up comedy as a side job. Maybe it’s so funny because from experience we have all been where the dialect takes us.

Oh…here is the link to my web site… Just now starting to work and play around on it. I know sometimes by sheer ability I can complicate even the simple strategies…..so in an effort to be able to undo those little challenges I copy and paste each section in a seperate email and send it to myself labeled with the appropriate section. I know how I am. Although it may take me longer to get started…I can rest assured that what ever mistake I manage to bring to life can be undone. Makes one more willing to try different things. I like to call that my forecasting of stupidity. Because there will always be stupidity and to prepare for it…. is the responsible thing to do. :)

    Have a great day!!

    Jrwhiterabbit,

Thanks for your comments but just to clear up one point here… That wasn’t me that quoted Einstein in post #166. That was Philip. :-)

  9. Jrwhiterabbit says:

You are absolutely right on the crap…I honestly am curious to how hard my space is on the home computer. Some people have so much active content on their page it never fully down loads. Of course, I do not use My Space for what most use it for eiher. I keep up with the politicians and election from the blogs. I also have the Sthephen Covey types as well. The other reason was to learn how to make a site and the general concept. I still doubt the notion I would use some of the loud, multi colored obnoxious, templates that look like a race for commission. Crazy? absolutely.

On a more personal note here….it is rare to see someone use a quote or quotes in order to make a point. I find it refreshing that it’s not completely a lost tool of communication.
As I was reading over the comments here I noticed this quote you posted from sometime back you used. I love this…I am such a huge fan of philosophical quotes ..
    your quote was….
““Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.” ~ Albert Einstein”

;) How true is that first sentence. It reminds me of another famous Einstein quote…. “It’s not that I am so smart…I just stay with problems longer” and….” Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds..”

Talk about getting into a long debate…don’t get me started on philosophy.. I guess one might say I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious… :) I am told way to often I pack to much passion and that I should leave it elsewhere ….I beg to differ on that one. To have passion solidifies a remarkable understanding that no education can compete with. One thing you can’t fake is passion… no matter how hard you try.
    .

Thanks again for addressing my comment. I am going to work on my profile AT some point tomorrow. When I finish it I will post the link back AND YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT…!

thank you for this site. It is one of very few legitimate myspace profile sites that I have found with out crazy adds all over it. Thank you thank you thank you! I am using one of your white profiles. Cheers and keep up the amazing work!

  11. Vicki says:

Absolutely Brilliant site!!! I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to say much more than what has already been repeated above, but I stumbled across your site by accident and sheer luck, and it was exactly what I was looking for!! 38 by no means makes me an old lady, but come on with the glittery, cutsey crap out there!! Some of us appreciate having a page we are proud of and you provide the best layouts out there for class and elegance!

I’m SO very pleased with the look of my page after weeks of sorting through garbage – Many, many Thanks!!

    Jrwhiterabbit,

Re: “Some how you need to get your tag words changed to where your web site shows up at the top of a Google search”

Much thanks for your comments and believe me, I am doing my best. Competition is fierce and, in fact, your post touches upon all the key issues with the MySpace layout scene these days. Most MySpace resource sites cobble together a cheesy collection of boilermaker templates, slap it up on a turnkey site and then focus entirely on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Many of them use unscrupulous tactics, such as “link whoring”, to cheat their way to the top of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). When I first got into making MySpace layouts, I was appalled by all this after which I decided to dedicate myself to providing a collection of quality layouts first and then work on getting visibility for my site. Yeah there’s a lot of total crap out there, eh? Don’t get me started… Sheesh-

    Uh oh… I feel a rant coming on… Better quit while I’m ahead… (*chuckle*)…

    TO ALL:

    Much thanks for your comments!

  13. Jrwhiterabbit says:

I came across this web site purely by accident. I have spent many hours looking for my space lay outs that were clean, plain, and tastefully done. Not only did I find my space layouts I liked ….I also found information that helped me with a web site I have been working on for over a year with no luck. This is one of those nice little life surprises that you find when you are not looking to find it.

Some how you need to get your tag words changed to where your web site shows up at the top of a Google search. I think more people would love to know about you. I will do my part in advertising for you by using your link on my page. Its very rare that I find something that I think is worthy of advertising for….and the main reason is to hopefully cut down on others who search for less. There is something to the old adage of…”Less is more”.

Contrary to what Mae West seems to think……”Too much of a good thing is a wonderful thing.”…..that is not always a correct statement. At least not in this case. Thanks again and I look forward to really using your site for various things.

I am using one of your designs on My Space and it is perfect for what I wanted. People can actually read the text!!

  15. Azora D\'Onofrio says:

I love your myspace layouts. In fact so much so that yours are the only ones I use. I wanted a feminine layout but not the “candy-heart Barbie doll” style that everyone seems to throw together. Kudos for some very nice layouts!

  16. Ali says:

    Hiya :)

I am using one of your free layouts on my MySpace page (myspace.com/alimoddeydhoo)

I think it’s the nicest, freshest, cleanest cut layout I’ve used. I like plain, uncluttered and neat and it’s hard to fine those around as everything is usually flashing neon lights and chaos. Thank you! :)

Thank-you so much for creating all these classy Myspace layouts. You wouldn’t believe the number of sites I have searched through trying to find something decent! I can’t stand all the noise and glitter of most layouts I see, yours are a breath of fresh air.

    Hi Rob,
Very helpful myspace layouts which look great. Friendly help and the EZ Tweaker is truly easy!Ideal for any musician who wants a professional-looking myspace music site. Highly recommended and great work.

    Rob;

While searching for a “plain, black layout” and found your Iron Spider MySpace Layouts. I am now displaying one of your black layouts, but also found some helpful hints from your site. Thank you!

Hope you don’t mind, but I put your Iron Spider link on my page, so other peps can find you.

  21. Rob says:

    Jonathan,

I think the Super EZ Profile Tweaker may be a little too much for your needs.

If you just want to make a simple MySpace page that keeps all the default features down to a minimum, may I suggest that you visit my other site (RobThunder.com) and use either the plain black or the plain white DIV layout. Either of those layouts will create a very minimalist look on your MySpace profile that will have just a photo, a quick message, your top friends space and the comments section. Then, you could purchase the Rob Thunder Link Removal License to remove the promotional links (all of which is ideal for a professional profile).

Greetings, I represent a professional athlete who wants to have a very simple myspace page where everything is hidden except the sections that myspace requires and then simply link back to his website with a photo and a message. We’re not going to use any of the other features of myspace except have this posted message. (Basically we’re going to set up a page to stop fakers from pretending to be us…) I wonder if your software will do this or if you’d be willing to help after we pay the software price and/or discuss other options. Please email me at your convenience. We would be willing to link back to your page here as a courtesy as well in appreciation for your help. Thanks.

    Shane,

Not sure what you meant by ‘creepy’ but thanks for the feedback anyway. Also, to avoid any confusion with others reading your comments, I’d like to point out that my name is Rob, not Dan…

  24. Shane Loiselle says:

Thank you Dan for the great layouts and the help you gave! When I first got on your site, it was a bit creepy ’cause you were describing the frustration I was experiencing just trying to find a very clean and professional layout for my business concerning “My Space”. lol… Too much cartoon glitter out there!
You have a great gig going on here and I’d like to express my sincere appreciation for what you have done and are doing.

Just copied one of your codes for myspace layout. I couldn’t have been simpler. And the quality of your designs are light years ahead of anything else available. Brilliant, astonishing, kudos to you sir!

  28. Heather says:

Thank you SO MUCH for making a simple myspace layout- my god it took me forever to find one! I tried a layout generator but it just messed everything up all the time- especially the text and I didnt want to have to bother to change it all to HTML!!! Proud & thankful to be using one of your backgrounds that a person can add their own character to with images etc without too much blingy bling on the layout itself!

  29. Cara says:

I love this site!!!!! Most myspace layouts are LAME!!! but I love all of your layouts and all of the cool info you have out here to design a website. I wont even have to take a night course, LOL I can just come to your page and get my html fix everyday!

Thank you so much for your time and effort. It is much appreciated!!

  32. David T. Stellwagen says:

The following may seem off-topic, but hang in there:

“Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.” ~ Albert Einstein

“Moralities, ethics, laws, customs, beliefs, doctrines – these are of trifling import. All that matters is that the miraculous become the norm.” ~ Henry Miller

Not outright stating you are a genius, but you’re very close. I’m new to MySpace (have my own site so not absolutely necessary) but been on the Net for almost 12 years; been slogging along using FrontPage 2003 code view to tweak the MySpace sections.

Just purchased and downloaded your editor: what a freakin’ blessin’ bordering on the miraculous (ease-of-use always feels like a miracle). I look forward to using it.

Short version: Many thanks, keep up the genius-ing and all the best,

  36. Rob says:

    Michele,

On the plain black MySpace layouts page, the two layouts that purposely hide the MySpace navigation bar (#1 and #3) are clearly marked as such. You should read the layout notes before installing any of them to avoid surprises.

Also, I do have an easy-to-use MySpace editor that can help you quickly whip up your own custom plain black layout.

  37. Michele says:

I just used the plain black layout for my myspace page and my links at the top of the page are GONE. I can’t get back to my main page…so…I am going to have to find another layout. Nice try though! I think you need to see it for yourself.

  38. Rob says:

    Steve G,

Only band profiles have that feature where you can see ‘profile views’ on the actual profile page. Regular MySpace profiles can only see their ‘profile views’ count on their MySpace account home page.

  39. steve g says:

awesome site…thanx for some tips. Just wondering how u get the “profile views” to show up on my page?

  40. Vivian says:

I think your layouts here are the best-looking on the web.

Thank you so much – and Happy New Year.

Dear Rob, all my thanks for your fabulous website. You’ve taught me in just a few days to build my own website. Hopefully I’ll be uploading the page in the next couple of days: http://www.buroroot.com.
Have used one of your templates and was even able to change the layout, I’l send you a mail as soon as the site is uploaded, so you can take a look. I’ve taken the liberty and changed the credits just a little bit:
“Special thanks to Iron Spider for design and assistance.” (the link remains ofcourse.
    Thanks ever so much.

I am setting up a myspace account for our Elkhounds and I could not find a professional looking background to save my life…that is until I found your website. Now I have a professional looking myspace site and hopefully it will help in our hobby. Thank you soo much. It is great!

  45. Carl says:

    hello Rob
Just been into my profile, followed your instructions and now everything is working fine.
thanks for your support (the bleeding from my ears has stopped now).
    Carl

  46. Rob says:

    Carl,

Search in your installed layout code (should be right near the top) for “Enter URL” and delete this. Your background should display normally in Internet Explorer after that. I don’t know how in the world you managed to get this prompt message mixed into your layout code. I just went to the Advanced Editor and tried to reproduce this error and couldn’t do it. The only thing I can think of is that you added it manually to the layout code afterwards thinking that it was necessary.

  47. Carl says:

I have recently used your site to set up my myspace page and am very impressed to say the least, but I have encountered a problem.
when I set up my page I was(and still am)using mozilla firefox and every thing works fine, until you access my page using explorer .
when you access my page with explorer the background is not visible, although when you access my page with firefox everything is fine.

is this something i can overcome?

    my myspace URL is http://www.myspace.com/thestawt1
I have given you my URL so that you can see what I mean.

    thanks Carl
P.S hope you like the music

  48. Raven says:

Yes, they not only work perfectly in myspace, but they are tasteful, as well. I got the bait and switch, also. So thanks a bunch.

  49. Paul A. says:

i luv using your free “plain” layouts!!!
…i don’t care for crazy background stuff!! (just adds to more “chaos!”)…

thanks for giving people like me, and “alternative!”…

    ROCK ON*…

  50. Savvi Shades says:

    Rob,

Thanks for the great myspace layouts! My myspace page looks great! Your layouts are just what I was looking for :-) muah! You’re the best!
